What are your favorite string setups for the POG3 OS (single stripe, bumperguard)?

Please indicate string, gauge and tension. Thanks in advance.

OK, in the absence of ANY responses :) , I punted and went for POSG 16 @ 68 lbs.

The recommended range printed on the frame is 60-75, so I went for the middle of the range. Seems kinda high to me...but then again, this frame is so solid and weighs in at a hefty - but not prohibitive - 362 grams strung, 68 just might work out fine.

(Balance is about 8.4 pts HL, btw, with a synthetic grip and 2 overgrips. The leather grip I had on there before made it too HL for me.)

Hey Keifers,

I hear you've got a pretty big match coming up on Sat and may need to switch to your POG3 -- so I'd recommend stringing the POSG 16 @ 66, instead of 68. That'll give you a little more pop without losing a lot in terms of control.

Great idea. Will do. Many thanks!

I've been using Gosen Jim Courier 16g in my 1983 POG OS @ 62lbs.

I may go up to 65lbs, as it's quite powerful compared to PSGD to me. I was expecting it to be a bit stiff, but found it to be comfortable with nice pop.

Good luck in your match.

Hey thanks for the reminder. Gosen JC is a very nice string with pop and a firmer feel. I'd probably really like it in this frame. I have a couple of sets -- will try it next string job.

Lost the match, but fought hard, so I'm OK with the outcome. Played a sandbagger, which always feels to me like a cheapened tennis experience, There's a good article about the NTRP system in the latest Tennis magazine -- the author reports playing 4.5 league match against a self-rated guy who, in the same season, played 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, and 5.5, and had winning records in all but 5.0 (where he was 1-2).

First time restringing: I tried cheap Wilson ultra syn gut 15L at 58lbs. Feels stiff, I thought the pog 3 would be softer with syn gut... anyway, I wish I had a better string (I asked for 16 gauge and the guy put 15L), but I'll wait until I hit the courts. Should work as far as a first stringjob is corcerned. If the stringbed doesn't soften due to playing, I'll probably go 54 next time with a better string.

On my 4 stripe OS:
55/50 all syngut.
55/45 syn/poly or natgut/poly. The last combo feels the best to me.
