I'm watching Good Morning America right now and Monica is on there revealing that she was binge eating after she came back on the tour. between the stabbing and the death of her beloved father she was doing it for comfort. She also has a new book coming out.

I've read the book. A lot of it is a bit cheesy, and stuff that I think only women who have struggled with weight can relate to, but it is interesting, and very, very funny in places. She has a good sense of humour. The most surprising thing is the amount she was eating, and the fact that she has had this problem since she was a child. Even before the stabbing, she ate to deal with stress. Interesting to read about her life in Yugoslavia too.

Monica's first was the most self-aggrandizing tennis bio I read. Bad read.

She's on the "dreaded" Hannity show as I post this. She's a feisty spirited person who has gone through so much.
It's good to see her pull it all together (or so it seems to the casual observer). Her place in tennis history is secure as a one of a kind winner and on court presence.

She is not only a great player who lost out on a rare chance to become the best player ever by a horrible and cruel incident but she is a truly great women and person too. It is good to see her at peace and happy now, all she deserves and more after all she had to go through in the 90s.

Does binge eating count as an official eating disorder? In any case it's nice that Monica is sharing these things which might help others, here's hoping she doesn't pull a Tyra Banks and lets it all go to her head.

Yes Binge eating is an eating disorder, at least it is classified as one in the books I have read for some of my classes in college, it is used as an emotional crutch to the point it is possibly disabling to the person, its sort of the reverse of Anorexia, not exactly the best parallel but the closest I can think of at the moment.

From http://www.helpguide.org/mental/binge_eating_disorder.htm "Binge eating disorder is characterized by compulsive overeating in which people consume huge amounts of food while feeling out of control and powerless to stop.

A binge eating episode typically lasts around two hours, but some people binge on and off all day long. Binge eaters often eat even when they’re not hungry and continue eating long after they’re full. They may also gorge themselves as fast as they can while barely registering what they’re eating or tasting.

The key features of binge eating disorder are:

* Frequent episodes of uncontrollable binge eating
* Feeling extremely distressed or upset during or after bingeing
* No regular attempts to “make up” for the binges through vomiting, fasting, or over-exercising.

People with binge eating disorder struggle with feelings of guilt, disgust, and depression. They worry about what the compulsive eating will do to their bodies and beat themselves up for their lack of self-control. They desperately want to stop binge eating, but they feel like they can’t."
