Hello!

I have read on the eurosport site that Nadal has a 139-4 winning record on clay since 2005. Well my question is to whom did he loose?

I know that Federer beat him in Hamburg last year and who else has beaten him?

Thank you!

Regards,
Jaka

Federer beat him 2007, not last year.

I know JC Ferrero beat him last year. Not sure about the others.

I believe Djoko beat him in Rome last year?

Igor Andreev beat him in Valencia 2005.... can't remember the other one. It wasn't Djokovic though.

2005 he lost in Buenos Aires to Gaston Gaudio in the quarters.

2005 he lost in Valencia to Igor Andreev in the quarters.

2006 he did not lose a match on clay.

2007 he lost to Roger Federer in the final of Hamburg.

2008 he lost to Juan Carlos Ferrero in the round of 32 in Rome.

I think 2005 is the most impressive given that he won a 2 tournaments in the South American swing and then another 2 tourneys on clay post-Wimbledon.

what an incrediable domination by one player on one surface, i think we are seeing something special here, that would not be replicated for a long long time. it feels that nadal can continue his journey to perfection for another 2-3 years, i wonder if he can be like 200-7(8) by 2011.

If you start from his last loss on clay in 2005, he is something like 112-2 which is pretty amazing. His only losses came from Federer in Hamburg in 2007 and Ferrero (Fluke!) in Rome 2008.

Yep it's exceptional, especially on clay where the serve is least important, you have to work so hard for the points, this is almost unbelievable...

I believe Nadal is undefeated on Clay in a best of 5 sets.

Another site I read says he's only lost twice, once to Fed and the other to Ferrerro....

In that Ferrero match at Rome 2008, he had some unbelievably horrific blisters on his feet, which I think for any of us, would have kept us off the courts for some time, but he still played through the whole match.

After winning his first FO, he has only lost twice I think. (Fed, Ferrero)

He was also exhausted against Federer. It was his 10th match in 12 days and he had 2 marathon matches in that time period. (Hewitt and Davydenko) He was totally out of it mentally after the first set against Federer.

^I don't think you can call the Hewitt match a marathon. If it was a slam match, it would be regarded as standard. And while I agree Nadal's level wasn't that high after the first set, you must concede that Federer's jumped considerably.

Out of it mentally? He's probably the strongest mental player of all time. Would you stop cutting Nadal down for a change?

JakaAre you Jaka or Jako? Not that big a deal. Call yourself what you like. Where did you get the 139-4 winning record? I just spend a couple of minutes on the ATP records and they list some dozen losses during the past 7 years. Still good, but no 4 losses. And, just eyeballing it, 139 doesn't look right either.

Yes since Monte-Carlo 2005, he is 124-2. He has never lost at RG and never lost a best of 5 set match on clay.

No one is unbreakable. Nadal knows he is tough mentally. That's why he gives himself such incredibly tough schedules during the clay season. He is risking injury and losses due to fatigue. I think his camp pushes him as well.
