If certain pros are already rich enough and don't care about giving free publicity, can they use any racket without painting it all black? Or can they be sued by a racket company if they don't have a contract with that company and they are using that company's racket?

If you suck at tennis, you can still buy Nadal frame and make the frame look mediocre.

It would be stupid for a manufacturer to sue an unsponsored pro for using their products - they would basically be suing the pro for FREE advertising. I'm sure that if any company could avoid paying a high-profile player anything to advertise their products, they would.

The reason why a pro might black-out his frame or hide a logo if he/she is unsponsored is that they know that being seen using a certain product (racket/clothes/shoes/etc.) can be seen as endorsing a product, and they don't want to give out an endorsement without being paid.
