It looks like Novak is playing has a D3O Dampener. I would love to buy some and test the material out like in all the videos of the material. I just hope they aren't expensive.

No he isn't. D3O is a semi-solid for chrissakes. It can't be used to make a solid object like a string damper because it would fall apart. It just happens that his damper is the same color.

But wouldent it be possible to create a hard outer shell and inject D3O inside?

That would be the most pointless thing...ever.

A rubber band does a good enough job, and so does a cheap rubber grommet (Sampras style). Anything more than that is overkill. In fact, too much damping takes away feel from the racquet.

Actually you are right. It would be pointless but if they made a more elaborate dampener, like a Gamma shock buster type, i wonder what kind of feel it would produce. It would be like "youtek-ing" your current racquet.

And yes those shoes are hideous. They look like something that some Gothic person would wear.

well d3o's purpose is absorbing shock so why not

The purpose is absorbing impacts... that's why the whole page lists almost nothing but ski and motorcycle gear; it's all stuff designed to prevent injury during falls. I think any other purpose they want to use the stuff for is pure marketing (namely, racquets and soccer balls). A string damper with D30 would be like using space-grade engineering on a can-opener.

Supposedly the purpose of D30 in the racquets is for feel on soft shots and control on hard ones, except that the old Dunlop 200G family of racquets did the exact same thing in the 80's; it's dynamic flexibility would cause it to be flexible on soft shots and be stiffer on hard shots. Except the process to make those racquets wasn't cheap enough for the racquet companies so they scratched it for cheaper processes that could be done in China so they could get every penny out of us they could. Way to go, Head; you've been beaten by 20 years.

^Hahaha

I agree with you. All these new technologies that companies that incorporate are just a gimmick to make each racket seem more "valuable" than other brands. IMO, they don't make much of a difference in terms of my tennis performance. It's all in your head.

I mean its probably going to be called the "d3o dampener" but its just going to be an orange piece of rubber
