Ok, so I know a bunch of us on here, including myself, are hard core tennis athletes that play many tournaments all over the place. I bet we have all noticed the crazed parent that thinks his/her child is the best and doesn't shut up. Maybe this is even one of YOUR parents? What do you think of these obnoxious people? Post your stories.

One time a girl's mother got into a fight with her opponent in the locker room of the club that the tournament was being held at. Another time I was playing a match outdoors and my opponents mom got on her cell phone and started yacking about how badly her daughter was playing, blah, blah, blah. To be honest though, I have had more bad experiences with the players themselves than the parents, although I definitely know some parents can be absolute terrors when their kids are playing.

Ive seen multiple cases of parents talking inappropriately to players on court. Ive played matches where my opponents father or mother has criticized my line calls and style of play. There is no room for this in the sport.

no that is the point of the parents getting mad, if they start to make you lose/change your match, then their goal has been accomplished. If the ball is out, call it out.

Very correct. At a recent tournament I went to, I witnessed a parent scream at her child's opponent, and made him cry. Note that this is the 16's! The parent was thrown out and her child was dq'ed.

one time i was in the finals of quite a big tournament ad down a set losing the secong 5-3. When i make a line call that was quite close and his parents just started yelling at me and wouldnt stop even when the umpire told them to stop and they got thrown out and the kid got disqualified so i won bit of luck but i'll take it lol.

just to be clear, i've never played organized jrs (and i'm way too old to start now), but i think i can handle this problem...
... tournament organizers need to set up a designated "parent drop-off area" containing a "decaf only" starbuck, turkey sandwiches (for the dopamine) and a big screen tv stuck on hgtv.
if they had these at jr. tournaments, you'd have to wake your parents up to take you home!

Yea I hate those parents. Especialy the people that bring like make tennis tornaments a family reunion and talk the whole time. I also played a kid whose dad was so into it it was the finals of a champ major zone and the kid was horrible and his dad came up and offered me new rackets and a bag to loose. I said I don't throw games and beat the kid 6-0 6-0

i've had this one girl's mother start swearing at me during a rain delay at sectionals, and then run away when the tournament director walked by. also, she then began yelling at the lines judge, for overruling her daughter's calls, which were horrible...it's really sad how much these parents care about tennis..it's just a game, after all! and also, if they want their kids to win that badly, then they should just pay for trophies to be made for their kids, and tell everyone that the kid is a superstar. like seriously.

I played a guy in the high school season who's father was unbelievable. I play varsity number 1 singles for my school. We were playing our cross town rivals. I got paired up against the coaches son. EVERY change over he would be telling him my weak points and he even got a point penalty called on me when I called over my friend and I said, "look at this *******, this is ridiculous." Not only that, the guys teammate didn't call ball on court and I stepped on a ball and fell over. I was a but upset since I won the first set 6-3 and was losing the 2nd set 2-5. Then I just came back and won 5 games in a row. The look of defeat in both their eyes was priceless.

Great idea! Sort of like a parent "daycare"! It would be way easier on all of the kids. :D

the only crazy parent syndrome i've witnessed firsthand was when i was training with this one kid while i was a junior and his father was the head coach.. his father put us up to play a practice set one day and this kid was making all these outrageous calls like calling my serve out when i clearly saw my ball go into the service box or calling it out when it was obviously smack on the line.. his father saw a couple points of him doing that and said he'd beat the living crap outta him if he cheated again lol

Huge, Spanish-Accented Dad
I hate him so much. I am the mom of a junior who plays his son.
The dad laughs derisively and yells "see I told you he was a cheater!" every time his son hits a ball out but near the line, as long as the judge is not nearby. When I tell him "you can't yell out that my son is a cheater" he curses at me a blue streak. All the other parents hate him, too.
I would pay for my son not to play his son. I am nervous enough watching my son without knowing that that dad-bully, at least twice my size, will curse me out.

Considering my mom and dad rarely watch me play they arent crazy at all. This kid i was playing had his mom pretty much hanging over the fence booing and making annoying/rude comments every time i called a shot out, she made calls for her kid (some really bad), and cheered everytime i made a mistake... My girls parents tried askin her to quiet down and she pretty much told them off, that was the tipping point! I decided i would not only crush her son but embarass her as well. The look on her face every time i yelled and/or fist pumped in her direction was very satisfying. Me and my dad heard her bad mouth me after the match to some of the parents and kids (my dad had come a little while b4 my match ended) he told me to go over and tell her and i quote myself "if u wanna talk s**t about me, u had better do it to my face" the kid and his dad got involved thats when my dad came over, that was fun to watch them back down! Im really not the kind of guy to take stuff from people, neither is my dad.
