Starting yet another player thread ;)

I am almost as tall as him and I was wondering what he does differently b/c he is tall i.e. footwork, etc.

Does he use a K95 18x20 or an older racquet? Grip? Grip size?

Does anybody know these?

Del Potro likes to take the ball on the rise because his height allows him too. He plays aggressive, alot of consistent and high pace balls. Almost like an Agassi.

So I should take the ball on the rise then and play close to the baseline?

I rids it of some sweat, many players do this.

yea, I see Warinka do that all the time. It cools there hands down so they don't sweat as much.

it's not him only, many do that. Roger included. They are soothing the finger that burns from friction with the grip.

I like the guy, more so ever since he beat Nadal few weeks back.

I dont think he will win the FO but on his day he could beat anyone.

Uhh I hope you are kidding. I do it because it helps evaporate that last bit of moisture which still lingers after wiping with a towel already dripping with sweat.

I do the same thing b4 i serve. Its just ritual, I couldnt do it any other way and I guess neither can he... It helps me slow down and get in a calm state of mind b4 a point. Not to soothe my fingers and I personally dont usually hav alot of sweat on my hand.
EDIT: I do like watchin Del Potro play, big hitting is always fun to watch!

Does anybody have any insight on the first post, it's what I'm most interested in?

You might do better to post in another area that deals with technique and playing since you seem to be looking for suggestions on how you should play if you wish to play like a Del Potro. This area is more for discussion on the players themselves and not the poster's own tennis techniques.

I was also looking for his grip, grip size, racquet.

Actually, his grip and grip size would be really interesting to know. I wonder if he uses a smaller grip like most other pros, or if he has a big grip. Also, there has been some debate on his actual forehand grip (eastern/semi-western).

He's improved a lot, getting to his first grand slam semi. Anybody have any further info on him, or comment on his game?

The future belongs to tall guys like DP and Karlovic.

no, they're at a height where the utility on serve is more than offset by compromised movement.

are you picking him to win more majors than, say, nadal, djokovic, or murray?

let history be your guide. if you want to dominate tennis, be about 5'10-6'3 or so. aside from some of the older guys, that range covers just about everyone.

Delpo ... great player, but he needs to lose the "Where's Waldo" shirt.

And ... yes, players that blow on their hand are doing it primarily to help dry/evaporate sweat.

Does anybody have any comments on his game? I really want to know his grip size, if he uses a smaller grip like fed, nadal or he has a grip that is "right" for his hand (I'm assuming he has big hands).

I agree. If only he could get a return like Andre, he would be the next Agassi. :)

well, he had a hip surgery right after the match, so I wouldn't actually call it "strange" that he had lost... anyways, he is recovering from that. I hope he can make a full comeback next year.

I would describe his game style as consistent baseline bashing.

Here in ARG some players do that, Gabriela Sabatini, Josť Luis Clerc used to do that, is about wet hands, other people think is giving good wishes to the hand, dunno why many do that :-?

^^Boris Becker used to do that too. Always thought he was being obnoxious- had the "hot hand" and was cooling it off. Also is it just me or does JMDP kind of look like an orangutang with his long skinny arms?
