This guy is going to go deep. I have never seen such a ridiculous level of play.

? are you referring to his first round match?

he played pretty well. it'd be nice if he could at least defend his QF points but that's asking a lot.

I would say a quarterfinal is a good result. The question is whether he can stay consistent which I hope he does. His game is huge maybe too huge...I mean he's the kind of guy who when Verdasco hits a hard forehand to him would probably hit a harder forehand back to knock his teeth out.

The next two rounds would be Almagro and Verdasco, couldn't really ask for harder 2nd and 3rd round matches on clay.

No one on tour has the overall weapons of Gulbis. If he puts it together mentally he can destroy everyone. Hope he gets it together and does what he needs to do.

he will be much pleased (and surprised) to hear that he is the "rg dark horse" . . . especially since he hasn't done didley-squat in so long and has a ton of points to defend.

How 'bout Gonzalez? He might be a threat....
Remember, folks, in the French mens semi's, there's usually always a dark horse in there with the other guys.

Well, it certainly ain't going to be Pete Bodo's dark horse pick - he had Montanes knocking Murray out and making semis.

This is a bogus post.....no particular reason mentioned except 'ridiculous level of play' (whatever that means).

EG is good but based on recent showing he ain't going far....OP has got a little carried away based on 1 match !!

I love Gulbis's style of tennis, but he's not going to last. He needs to learn better percentage tennis, because he has more weapons than anybody.

I agree. He has the potential to knock off some top players if he puts it together. Last years experience at the FO, will certainly give him the belief of going deep in the draw.

Gulbis serve and forehand are like are a cannon. As well as possessing, a nice drop shot and good hands at the net. It would be great if he could get a top coach like Lundgren, who was able to bring Safins game together... Gulbis game reminds me alot of Safin at times.

He will lose to the first good returner he plays.

Gulbis has the ability to blow Almagro away. And I hope he does. If he manges to make 3rd round Gulbis vs Verdasco could be quite the match.

"RG dark horse is gulbis" re you kidding Sea Biscuit has more chance of making the final as a dark horse, but gallantly losing to Bambi on roller skates

fail.

and about the original post, for some reason he plays amazingly at RG, but kind of falls off the radar during the rest of the year. or at least he did this year, but i'm pretty sure he just broke out at last year's RG, right?

Yeah he did. Most of this year he's been plagued by wrist injury...which is odd; I'd rather expect his ankles to give out first.

I'd love to see Gulbis go far this FO. Seeing a couple upsets with him involved would "make the tournament" for me.
