Hi,

Thought i'd try this: I am a 4.0 mainly doubles player but i play singles when i get the chance or my captain gives me the thumbs up to play. So anyway I was wondering what other 4.0 players are carrying in their bags... by the way i play in both Hawaii and San Francisco...

Wilson n-code federer bag (white/red/black), 3 pockets
5 babolat aeropro drive racquets 2-4 1/4 and 3 4 3/8... strung with Wislon Gold 17 & Gosen 17 @ 58 lbs
3 cans of Dunlop balls
1 pair of Nike vapor 5 (white/blue)
1 jump rope
1 set of yonex over grip (light blue)
2 t-sirts (SDSU & Oneil)
1 pair socks (nike)
1 set of string savers (babolat)
1 pair of nike baseball wrist bands
& a tennis elbow brace

that's what in my bag... feel free to comment and let me know what's in your 4.0 leage tennis bag :)

i'm around 4-4.5, been playing for 13 years, and to be honest, I don't even have a bag. just three racquets and bottle of water. if i think it's going to be a serious match, i'll even bring a towl, but i come dressed and ready to party.

i feel like i should have something, but I never do. is that wierd?

since i came back to playing, i never carry a bag either.. just a couple rackets, mini cooler with all my water and a towel

I guess no one cares what's in the bag of a lowly 3.5 . . . . :(

cindy - if you're a lowly 3.5 then i'm a lowly 4.0 -- that .5 difference doesn't really amount to a hill of beans in the grand scheme of tennis. we all suck. it's just the degree of suckitude.

OP -- played in hawaii for years in usta and ekolu leagues. maybe i know you? :)

in my bag?
2 racquets. other 2 i keep at home because lugging around dozens of racquets sounds cool but in practice how many racquets do you wind up using? 1 or 2 tops. tournaments are different.
a few overgrips.

i don't bring water. all tennis centers here have water coolers on court.

i come dressed and ready to play my particular brand of slice and dice and drop and lob tennis. yay.

I believe the word you are looking for is "suckability." :)

I always bring water. I don't trust the water in the coolers.

I once worked in a courthouse. One of the responsibilities of the clerks was to clean the water pitchers that sit on counsel's table and the witness stand. I worked there for two years. I will let you guess how often those pitchers were cleaned. Hint: It is a five-letter word that starts with the letter "N" and ends with the letter "R."

Also feeding my irrational fear of water coolers is a story my brother in Arizona told me. We were golfing and they had some weird method of supplying water on the course (I can't remember what it was -- some sort of portable water tanks at various locations or something). I asked my brother what was going on. He said that someone had contracted some awful parasite or bacteria or something from the water coolers and had almost died, so now the club had gone to this other system.

There. Are you properly scared of water coolers now? :)

your scary water stories don't scare me. i grew up drinking tap water and i'm mostly fine. heck i remember as a kid drinking water from the garden hose too. i'm still mostly fine. mostly.

extra socks
2 extra T shirts / 1 short
bandana
banana / apple

nail clipper
shoe cushion- superfeet green/ softsole
everything goes in my bagpack

I don't drive so prefer to clean up before leaving the building.

- Couple of plastic grocery bags (for sweaty shirts)
- Couple of wrist bands
- Couple of overgrips unwraveled in a ziplock bag
- Couple of used balls
- Can of new balls
- Couple of quarters
- 2 racquets

That was my bag check.

God if there's anything I hate, it's those damned Tennis Channel bag check commercials with players I don't care about. Sam Querrey's is the worst. His racquet description sounds like he's reading it straight off the TW page.

Oh, right...my bag. It's a 2009 Babolat Team line 6 pack.

2 Babolat Pure Storm racquets strung at 55 and 57 lbs.
1 Pack of Tecnifibre X-1 Biphase string 17g (should I decide to string them by hand at a match, I guess)
1 Wilson Pro overgrip, white (left over from a 3 pack)
1 Nalgene bottle (it was made with BPA...take that germophobes)
1 Sport towel (This rotates frequently)
2 cans of Slazenger balls
15 random balls of various brands I've collected.
1 pair of Nike Breathe Cage 2's white and charcoal

That's my Tennis Warehouse Bag check. But I'm not a 4.0.

Hey, that's my game, and I don't remember leasing you licence rights. :) You gotta wait till I either (a) kick the bucket or (b) learn not to play with 1 and a half knees and quit quoting from obscure literary masterpieces.

My bag check belongs in Cindy's 3.5 thread; besides, I need about an hour to inventory everything in there. You pick up a lot of flotsam and jetsam (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKQZqGiiu54)
learning how to play tennis on the deck of the ark - in the rain.

I about threw up when he said, "Oh, look! Here's my Zappo's.com gift card, right here!" Blech.

Mostly, I do like the bag check segments, but I think they need to find a few more slobs. You know some of those players are Bag Slobs like me! :)

Wow you certainly come prepared. You bring 5 racquets to a match? What's the most you have ever had to use during a match?

I am not going to post that I carry a racquet, balls and a towel to my matches (duh...)

The atypical things that I have found helpful in matches are:

Jolly Rancher candies
Advil
Athletic tape
Rosin bag
Handwarmer/glove (for winter use of course)

when i played tourneys i would often bring:

http://z.about.com/d/bicycling/1/0/5/3/-/-/gu_six_pack.jpg

it's kinda like liquid crack. instant energy and it helps prevent cramping.

recently i've tried using this for blisters:

http://www.wildernessmedicine.com/Portals/348/ProductImages/newskin.jpg

it generally works BUT it hurts like a beyotch. far far worse than the actual cut or blister.

"Here's a $150 Zappo's gift card I can go online and buy shoes blah blah." Yes, everyone knows what Zappo's is. Yes they're a great company. And the Olympus Camera, too.

I will say that as much as I hate the bag check segments. The, one minute clinics are great. I've done a bunch of those drills with teammates before and those have helped.

There are either quite a few people like you that don't want to state the obvious; or they never bring fresh balls to the match and they fit into another category that has been talked about on this forum before?

awesome responses, i too hate the bag check stuff but it's nice to see that we tennis players carry some weird stuff... i actually carry 5 racs cause of conditions, but i have used 3 of them in one match in Los Gatos, CA.

They are perfect for dry mouth unassociated with dehydration. Actually drinking a bunch of water can wash out the saliva and make your mouth really dry.

What's in my bag:

2 Wilson KPS88's - 55 lbs & 53 lbs
2 cans of Dunlop Championship balls (my favorite)
32 oz water bottle with Vitalyte
Towel
2-3 Yonex overgrips (white & yellow)
Scissors (for the grips)
Extra Pete Sampras and Babolat dampeners
Bandages, tape for fingers
Tape measure (net is often too high)
Apple, orange, a couple power bars, almonds
Hat
Icy Hot
Spray-on sunscreen
About 8 old practice balls for warm up
Business cards with my phone number and a pen (for future matches!)

I alternate between a Wilson US Open 6 racket bag and a Wilson Backpack bag. I like the backpack because it is more self-contained and easier to lug around. I try to avoid carting around a lot of junk I don't use, but if I need extra rackets (beyond my two standard rackets) I switch to the bigger bag.
