after what happened to monica seles at the french open how could roger let that crazed fan come up to him and put his hands on him? roger put his head down for goodness sake. hard to understand that.

He pushed him away and I think Federer was really aware of the threat, and kinda waited for security to do something. Federer didn't put his head down, the guy PULLED his head down. Roger pushed him away.

Federer was startled at first, but the guy was really a "fan." He was wearing Swiss socks and said something to Federer. I don't think he felt threatened after that.

It looked me like he put his head down. Wise thing to do. Maybe Federer wanted to make sure that he didn't get poked in the eye or something.

"This guy, I don't know, he looked at me and I was not sure what he wanted. It seemed like he wanted to give me something. So I was actually okay, because I saw he wasn't pulling for anything stupid. It definitely felt uncomfortable once he came close to me. Looking back, it definitely threw me out of my rhythm a little bit."

you better believe Roger was prepared to take him down if he was pulling for a weapon =p

safin attacked a crazy fan that tried to approach safin and interfere with a game?

I would love to see someone try and pull something like that on Safin, could anybody be stupid enough to try that though?

My first reaction was, "how did he get on the court?"
I would think after the Seles stabbing that they would
never let this happen again. I know it's hard to stop someone from running
on to the court but he should have been tasered well before he got
within 5 feet of Federer!!!

Imagine how surreal and shocking it would have been if he actually was some lunatic out to stab Federer.

Roger handled it well... he could obviously see the guy was just an idiot, not on a war path. He was probably first in shock it all happened so quickly and by then the guy had to run away from security.

regardless of wether or not he was a threat roger went into the fetal position. so strange. not knocking him but it is strange and wondering what that says about his on court psychology.

Sorry crash1929 we never saw the bizzaro world match of Federer vs Soderling you are alluding to. Your getting the earth one and the bizarro world match mixed up.

Roger didn't think he was a threat and this has happened to him before so he would know. He started walking off to the side when this guy came up to him and tried to put the hat on him. I'm glad Roger is a gentleman and doesn't immediately resort to violence like the maniacs in other sports (Ron Artest). Good for him, he responded well and he did not expect this guy to try and put something on him, but at the same time he knew that the guy wasnt doing anything stupid. If the guy looked like a real threat im sure things would have went down differently and the security guards would have been picking up his decapitated head rather than having to tackle him to the ground.
