So far, only Nadal has been able to do it. Furthermore, no one else has come as close as taking him to 5 sets.

Surely, this will end at some point. Who will be the second one to do it?

I'm not sure there will ever be a second. Maybe Fed will stop making Slamfinals before anyone else manages to beat him. If someone will, I'd say Murray

Delpotro. (I've just jumped onto his bandwagon).

Fed's won the only encounter at a Slam with Murray, and neither Murray or Djokovic have ever won a set against him in a final.

I see him beating Nadal if they both make the finals at Wimby/USO, it's a toss up at the AO and FO still favors Nadal. I don't think anyone else could beat him in the setting of a final. He's got a gear there that no one but Nadal can handle.

This is interesting because..

- How great Federer is in Slam finals. So tough to beat. But as he grows older, he will be more vulnerable.
Similar to Pete. After that loss to Edberg in 1992 USO, the only final loss that Pete got till Safin - USO'2000 was at hands of red hot Agassi at AO' 95.
He won 12 I believe in that range.

- This also shows how tough Nadal is. He never gives up and fights like hell in slam finals. Obviously he the lefty advantage but he gives his best in slam finals unlike so many who gets overwhelmed. Soderling the latest example.

Djokovic beat him in the semi-F at AO '08 and won a grand slam, so that would be my choice.

Djokovic couldn't convert any of his 7 set points against Fed in 2007 USO final.
The occasion was big on him. He may do now provided they meet in a hard court slam final.

Nadal might be the only one ever to do so. I guess Murray would be my second choice, Del Potro my third choice, but not sure if either ever will. Djokovic or Roddick no.

1.Murray

2.Djokovic
3.Del Potro

Those are best bets IMO with Murray having the best chance by far.

Well he's the only player out of this group to beat Fed in a slam so a good choice IMO.

Djokovic, easily. No question.

Murray and Del Potro are the only ones with a chance. Djokovic has already peaked IMO and he is reliant on Federer playing poorly to have a shot. Federer is unlikely to give up a slam final to a player who needs his assistance to score wins. Tsonga is so erratic and based on his performance it the 08 AO final would probably get nervous and underperform. I dont see Federer losing a slam final to anyone not named Nadal until he slows down further though. With the monkey off his back he will better and more relaxed tennis, and the only ones for him to be stopped in the big events until he gets closer to 30 will be Nadal or an earlier upset IMO. I voted for wont happen in the next couple years. However if it does it will be Del Potro or Murray who does it.

Nobody else but Nadal and Nadal is done so Fed wont lose another slam final ever. Actually Fed wont lose at a slam til he retires.

dimitrov will beat him at wimbledon in 2011, ten years after federer beat sampras there

Andrew Murray

So since Murray is such a popular option, where do you think it will happen - USO? That would be pretty much his only chance. I don't think he has a good one at Wimbledon.

Andy Roddick

Andy Roddick

I thought about putting that option, but Roddick hasn't been making any slam finals since USO 2006, so I decided against it. He could make the USO final this year, though.

If he is inconsistent, he could lose to anyone.

While Djokovic did beat him, and is the only person to beat him other than Nadal or Safin recently at a slam, I do think that that was more of a fluke. Djokovic isn't consistent enough and enough of a fighter to be a regular threat; and while Djoko deserved that win, Federer was off his game with mono (although he may be more inconsistent later in his career as well, so who knows).

I think maybe Murray and Del Potro are the biggest future challenges at GS.

Well Roddick has done better against Fed recently, even split sets with the current RG Champion. So I think it needs to be discussed. Do I think It could happen? Probably not.

Im ready to see what Roddick has in him for Wimbledon.

My guess is no one, as I agree with some of the others that when the time finally does come (meaning it continues to happen), he'll be out before the finals. But both Nadal and Federer have only lost to each other in a final. I think they are way to mentally strong to lose it to anyone else.

Djokovic is the most likely. I don't think he fears Federer anymore.

Murray won't do it, and DELPO is a mental midget against Fed.

I think you're having a nervous breakdown :)
Nadal is not a steak and he's not done. Fed has already lost slams, he will do it again! (Have you heard of prozac?)

I can see why anyone might vote Djoker in this poll but because he doesn't fear Roger? Are you seriously suggesting that Murray does?

Murray could do it similarly to how Safin and Hewitt did it to Pete. They showed promise in best of 3 set matches against him and finally took the next step to win their first slams. Since Federer is still making slam final after slam final Murray will have to do the same in order to get his first major title.
