Can anyone recommend a good coach/pro in Houston who's willing to teach the more "modern" game/strokes? I've tried a couple of them here and they were always the "old school" type of players with flat/eastern/even all cont strokes and they always told me to follow through over shoulder deeming the windshield wiper motion somewhat wrong.

Scott Adams is probably one of the best pros in Houston. He has worked with several top 20 world ranked women and has several of the top nationally ranked juniors, boys and girls, at his club.

It might be worth checking out some of the players @ Rice U, and maybe the assistant coaches to see if they'd do lessons on the side.

Kristina, the women's assistant coach, is top notch. She helped me out a lot before she moved to Texas.

Aww this sounds really nice, but is such a high profile coach willing to teach an amature adult who just wants to improve his game and is hopeless for any professional tennis career?

Also what kind of cost am I looking at if he is? Is $100 for an hour lesson gonna make it? That's about the highest I'm willing to pay.

Have you touched base with the USPTA? Considering that their world headquarters are in Houston, I can't believe that there isn't anyone around who can give you a little guidance.

Check out http://www.tennislessons.com/Texas/Houston there are plenty of coaches listed, some are offering discount coupons...

Good luck.

Ryan Hay is a low cost teach pro in west houson. He understands the newer game (Semi western-western grips), baseline with lots of topspin. He will remind you of a surfer but, I think he can lead you in the right direction for about $40 and hour.
