I want to play in a tournament that's in mid july. So I'm going to play as much as I can within 30 days. I'm having trouble hitting cross court. I think I've rallied so much that I'm just wired to hit the ball down the middle every time. Whenever I adjust my swing to hit crosscourt, I frame it and the shot becomes a lob that somehow lands in. I'm also having trouble hitting drop shots, which usually lands wide or goes too far to be any good. But my biggest weak spot is probably my volley. I don't have the reflexes when someone rips the ball. My serve is very inconsistent, but I'll work on that.

I don't think I will take the trouble to video tape myself or pay for a coach. But are there certain tips - besides 'practice makes perfect' - that will address my problems right now?

btw, I played 3-4 hrs of tennis today and I got blisters. One poped. :( So I'm wondering if I need to work on my techniques, because I know people who play tennis 6 hrs/day over the summer.

Try rallying crosscourt.

when you warm up or are rallying do crosscourt, sown the line, and then have one player do crosscourt, the other DTL. Then switch.

IMHO, I think you have the harder swing down. I can hit CC forever because I'm really comfortable with it and I have more space compare to DTL. You should try to just rotate your bodly slightly and hit the ball CC just the same as you would DTL. From there adjust accordingly. For my drop shots, I come at the ball at around a 45 degree angle and cut under it. Aroudnt he end of the swing I rotate my wrist slightly, just to give it that extra kinda flick on the ball and make it go up then down as apposed to a gradual angled path. Volley, sadly I will say "Practice makes oerfect" The only to really get comfortable at the net to be there. Do drills, doubles play really helps. Once you get used to the pace up there, you can put away those drillers that come straight at you. YOu wil be able to just suck all the pace and just kill it like a drop shot.
