View Full Version : Has anyone ever won every grand slam and being runner up in every?

That would be an interesting acheivement, winner of all grand slams but also a runner-up in each....Fed's nearly there, he needs the runner-up trophy at the US to complete the lot.

I think it really shows a players dominance though at the slams and on surfaces....look at Feds:

Australian Open - 04, 06, 07
French Open - 09
Wimbledon - 03,04,05,06,07
US Open - 04,05,06,07,08

Runner Up:

Australian Open - 09
French Open - 06,07,08
Wimbledon - 09

That's a pretty impressive record....anyone else have anything like that?

Agassi won the four of them, but never was runner-up at the AO, since he won it the four times he reached the finals

FO: '99
W: '92
USO: '94, '99

Runner Ups:

AO: None

W: '99
USO: '90, '95, '02, '05

You should basically just say those who make multiple finals since losing a final is never better than winning one.

Hopefully Federer never completes this task... ;)

Federer being runnerup at the US Open this year would be a disappointment

Without doing the research, I would bet that several women have done it. I know Graf lost USO (Sanchez-Vicario) FO (Seles) and W (Davenport), but Aus? I don't know. Also, Evert & Navratilova beat each other over 30 times, so that's a possibility too. Maybe Seles and King too.

Graf lost the Australian Open final in 1993 to Seles. So she has done it.

Court has done it too. She has lost Wimbledon finals to Bueno and King, a U.S Open final to Bueno, an Australian Open final to King, and a French Open final to Lesley Turner.

King is only missing a French Open runner up. She has won all the slams atleast once, including the French and Australian. She has lost in an Australian Open final to Court, lost in the finals of Wimbledon and the U.S Open more than once, but her lone French Open title was also her lone final there.

Shirley Fry of all people has almost done it. She won each slam exactly once. She has also lost 2 French Open finals, 1 Wimbledon final, and 1 U.S Open final. All that is missing is an Australian Open final defeat, and that is because the one and only time she played it she won.

Doris Hart has actually also done it. She has won 1 Australian, 2 French, 1 Wimbledon, 2 U.S Opens, but lost 1 Australian final too, and was runner up in a horde of French/Wimbledon/U.S Open finals.
