Calleri has just announced his retirement from professional tennis. He did it after his loss against García López in 3, 6-2, 6-3 6-2.
He said he was meant to play till the end of this year, but chronic injuries have driven him to the retirement path.
My own fav player retires. I will really really miss him.

Gracias, Gordo!

I've just heard. Sad news really but his retirement has been coming for a while. You could see that he was fed up with the whole thing already. Time for him to move onto other things and enjoy his life and family.

Good luck Iron Balls©!

We surely will miss him. One of the most entertaining players out there when he was healthy, and one of the nicest and most liked.
God, what a backhand, what a forehand.

Te queremos Gordo!!!

32 or 33, I think... but he suffered too many injuries. In fact, I must say he spent like 50% of his career injured.

By the way, apparently he plans on playing one last event: Buenos Aires 2010. Hopefully, he'll get an easy draw and reach at least, the QF :)

Best one handed backhand in a long while -- even rivaled Guga! He could take that shot on the rise, and force his opponent to errors. Too bad his injuries caught up with him.

This is sad news, I loved watching him play. Huge groundies and serve.

I first saw him at the 2000 US Open, when he pushed Sampras to 2 tiebreakers.

One of his best matches was against Agassi in Miami (2004). Calleri was dictating play so impressively, that Agassi looked like a novice. After some impressive rallies, they ended shouting at each other. Very intense game!

I was just going to mention this match, Calleri just destroyed AA in Miami, winners EVERYWHERE, BH, FH, Aces, one of the best displays of tennis Ive ever seen anywhere that day.

Yeah, the other I remember was SF DC 03. Agustin destroyed no.1 Ferrero in his homeland. He showed a pure power display. Sublime match for "Iron balls".

He was a great player to watch and had some memorable matches, and my favourite was his victory over Agassi when he blew him off the court. I also know of his Davis Cup win against Ferrero, but I wasn't a fan at the time, so I didn't get to see that one. He was a player with power, but he was by no means a ball basher.
