I invite all women to talk about women's apparel in this thread. We can discuss current fashion, WTA tour, apparel carried by the Tennis Warehouse (fit, sizing...etc) We can even post photos if we like.

I would start off by commenting on the Adidas Adilibra group. I love the cap sleeve and the skort, two thumbs up! Although the skort fit looser than other Adidas skort of the same size (ball would fall out), so ladies might wanna consider one size down when ordering.

Haha, today i bought a skirtini to go with my tankini. I put them on and immediately thought it looked like a tennis outfit.

Yeah, she had modeled it before the '08 USO, and it looked really cute and flattering. I was disappointed not to see her play in it, as I had HATED her '07 dress, that awful orange-y red monstrosity.

I have a skirted swimsuit bottom...never thought of that!

Yeah, it's great! I do wear tennis shorts underneath, of course. All the tennis skirts I'd tried just had too much going on--too much fabric, too many panels, etc. I like the single piece of stretchy fabric, no zippers, nothin'. Super simple! :)

Changing the subject slightly but still about women's apparel - what do you think about the new adidas Barricades with the extra geometric patterns? I personally find it kind it kind of odd looking. At first when I saw it I was like, 'what is that?'

I like them. I don't like the price tag, though!

I generally would like to see women's shoes in more than just white and pink! For instance, the men got Black nikes with a red swoosh!! I want that!!!!

But again, I do like the designs, too. Maybe I'll try to get some of those when they go on sale.

I have had my eye on this outfit for a while...pretty basic Prince team stuff, but a few women were wearing it at districts this past weekend, and it looks really nice on. Anybody wear any Prince stuff? Any hints on sizing and how it compares to other brands (Nike, Adidas, Fila, Kswiss, etc)?

What a great thread!
Gocard - I really don't like the new barricades - why do we need naff patterns on the side?? I like the colours but not with the added detail!

The most comfy skorts I have ever owned are made by Lotto, far better than my nike ones as the ball always falls out of the pocket!

Tiffani! I was kind of hoping you'd see this thread.

Honestly, I love the look of the whole line with the exception of the cap sleeves (and it isn't like I dislike the cap sleeves, they just look pretty basic, which can be good).

Personally, I'd love to see the dress and the colorblock/empire tank in the vlog...just to see how the length and the straps look on an actual person. I'm short, and I have strap issues at times. Thanks! Let us know if you need to fly out additional models...I'm sure you won't be short of volunteers! :)

Topaz, thanks for the input! It won't be in the vlog that goes up today, but I'm planning on next week. I empathize with your strap issue as I'm also not exactly tall. I'll have to talk to Chris about a travel expense budget for models :).

Great! I'll keep an eye out for it! Really appreciate that y'all started (and kept doing) a women's vlog!

As far as the strap issue...I find that sometimes tanks will fit in the torso, but the straps are way too big (along with the whole arm opening area), but if I size down, then the straps are perfect but the torso...ahhh...not so much!

Adjustable straps for the win!

I like this skirt, because it is simple and I love the color. But I don't like the big hole in the back of the top. I'd have to look at the other cap sleeves or something else. But then, I don't usually wear tank tops anyway, so that's just me.

Hi everyone Im new to the messge board. I just wanted to thank TW for stocking Eliza Audley. My name is Sarah Im from Sydney Australia and have played tennis since I was a kid. I currently pla tennis 3 days a week and still get as much enjoyment out of the game as I ever have. I have been looking for a brand of tennis like Eliza for a long time. I really wanted chic, elegant and fashion orientated tennis apparel that wasnt coming from one of the big brands (nike, adidas, fila, reebok etc) and I have found that in Eliza Audley. I love the Pro Rose Collection and splurged on buying almost the whole collection. The quality is great and as I said the clothes are so pretty and feminine. I cant wait for the next collection "Deco Pearls".

As I said earlier today Im so happy that TW is stocking Eliza Audney. I used to wear Nike (but so do many other people) so Im so glad I have found this brand that not many people know about because I love the idea of wering something a little more exclusive. Eliza Audley mixes practicality and fashion perfectly and thats why I have made the switch. I cant wait for the up and coming collections. As O also said I got quite excited when I saw the collection on TW that I bought so many pieces from the Pro Rose group. Here are the pieces I bought (I havent gotten any pix of me playing in them yet but stay tuned).

Well,I went and looked at the new clothes, but i was able to keep myself from buying - that's amazing. I really don't like to buy street clothes, but I love buying sports clothing!

I, however, when I was ordering a case of balls on line; did start looking at shoes and saw that Wilson had AA width shoes for sale and since I always have a hard time finding shoes that are narrow enough, I ordered a pair to see if they will fit!

We shall see.

Tennisidentity - Nice blog! I have a blog, but I'm very sporadic with it.

Spoke - let us know about those shoes. My current shoes (Adidas a3 Prevails) are discontinued, and I have one more new pair stowed away in addition to the pair I'm wearing now (which are getting to the falling apart stage pretty quickly)...so soon I will need to find a new shoe. Darn adidas for discontinuing the best tennis shoe I've ever worn! *shaking fist*

Topaz, what kind of shoes do you like? I really like the ASICS Gel Resolution shoes - they are light and very comfortable. I'm still on the 1st version as I stocked up on a couple pairs, but if the price is okay, I'd recommend considering the Resolution. Right now I'm using the Prince MV4 which are on sale but the sizes are getting limited. I tried Adidas Barricades but they seem to run big for me.

You are not the first one to recommend the Asics! They are at the top of my list once my last pair of Adidas hit the dust! I have high arches, so I like a narrow heel, but more room in the forefoot.

I've also worn the Prince MV4s, but while I liked the shoe, it wasn't quite the right support and my plantar fasciitis came back while wearing them. Went back to the a3s, and it went away again.

Maria is my favourite player so Im a little biased and protective of her. I guess her frame is quite difficult to design for given that she is so tall and long combined with her broad shoulders. Oh, I'm not knocking her as a player (though I'm starting to wonder if she will ever truly contend again...if she doesn't, that will be very sad)...but I think she gets dressed very poorly as far as fit, particularly around her shoulders, of course. Seeing as how her stuff is custom made, I don't understand why they can't make it fit her better...the straps were gapping, and I just don't think it was very flattering up top. The bottom half was very nice, though the dress on whole is still not a favorite of mine.

I loved the simple, athletic cut to the white dress she wore when she won Wimbledon, and the Wimby outfits the following two years. I also liked the white/yellow AO dress from a few years ago, too, that was very pretty.

Serena...lol...now *that* is a hard body to dress, I think! That is why, IMO, they stick with basics with her these days, and don't get too creative. Her US Open dress (available on some other site that we shall not name) actually states that it runs an entire size larger. Not sure who they're kidding here...why not just make it the correct size to begin with? And I'm not knocking her either, I think she's looking pretty fit these days (but I don't think we'll see her return to early 2000s form). I actually like her things, though, because they are usually flattering on me! LOL We don't really have the same shape, though. One of my favorite dresses of mine is the Serena dress from the FO two years ago (had a little belt). And, I LOVED her USOpen dress last year, but when I tried it on, it didn't quite work. Oh well! :) That was quite a ramble from me, sorry!

Very pretty~ Though some clubs here have white dress code. I think white only is too boring. What do people here think?

I'm lucky enough to not have to play anywhere with an all white dress code.

Also, the medium blue skort from that section seems to be the same skort and is on sale, and I like that shade of blue, so I got that one too. And then I had to get the tank that goes with it - white with blue underpanels. Then I had to stop!!!

So I will post fit and comfort when they come in. I've never worn KSwiss before, so I may be sending it all back for all I know.

Oui, how about capris? Most brands have capris in their regular workout lines.

Does anyone else not like any of Maria Sharapova's dresses these days? The tops just don't fit her correctly...which is inexcusable when they are being custom made!
I love capris for playing tennis in but even that is no longer an option. The scar's much further down. :(

I've liked her dresses for '09 thus far but you're right, the fit is a miss.

Hmmm, try a few other tennis sites (coughcough). I saw a few women wearing that skirt in the pink/orange combo this past season, and I have to say I liked it much more in person than from the pictures on the website. It seemed to have a really nice fit.

I'm lucky enough to not have to play anywhere with an all white dress code.
My club says the dress code is 90% white. Everytime when I wear something non-white especially both top and skirt have color, I feel a little uncomfortable.:-(

I tried a few KSwiss tops about a year ago and they fit very tight and were very long. I'm 5'4", and I'm not fat but "my cup runneth over" if you get my drift. The Kswiss tops seem to be made for a 6 foot tall flat chested woman. If you find otherwise for the new KSwiss, let us all know. I like the looks of the new lines.

Catfish, I'm 5'4" as well (though my cup just seems to be filled right around the middle!) and I have issue with the length/fit of straps, and now, with some of the 'longer' tops, too. I've actually gone done to a size small with some Nike tops, and they fit perfectly (but only if they are the longer length styles).

I didn't try on any of the k-swiss I saw last night, but to me, yes, they looked like they ran on the larger size. It does seem to me that their sizing has changed from their line a few years ago (of which I have a fair amount of).

Her current dress is a disaster! All that criss-crossy nonsense, and the flared skirt! She looks like a cross between the Eiffel Tower and the John Hancock building. And she does tall women no favors by suggesting with her attire that we require external bracing.

That said, I usually like her dresses. I liked her RG frock, but her Wimbly was meh.

I liked Ana's Wimbly dress. Better than those bunchy puckering nightmares she wore all of last year!

Thanks for the info. I may order some of the KSwiss clothes. With the TW free return shipping, it's worth trying them.

I have a really hard time finding tennis tops to fit me at all. I just bought a new Nike basics top and skirt in navy blue. The top is longer than the older styles, but the size medium fit me pretty well. I tried on a small and the length was right, but it was too tight in the chest. The new Nike fall line seems to be sized larger than last year's line because I always needed a size large Nike top in the 2008 early 2009 styles. Nike seems to change their sizing a lot.

I agree about the sizing inconsistencies between tennis brands. I wish they would standardize. A small Nike is nothing like a small K-Swiss for example. It leads to lots of exchanges and lots of ordered items going to my daughters (which of course they love). Those size charts are important to pay attention to but who has time to measure.

OK, internet fashion show highlights :)

My TW order came in today. I had ordered 4 skorts and two shirts (and a Nike hat, Nike socks and KSwiss armbands). It was like Christmas around here with all the bags.

KSwiss -
I ordered the medium blue and the purple wrap skort (blue was summer, purple was fall) in medium. I'm 5'3", carrying about 15 extra lbs. that need to go away.

As I feared, the skorts were a little long and a little too straight for me. They just did not hang right. I need a slit or something to help me out. Both will go back. Another ding against them was that the compression short was a little short. Nothing I hate worse than messing with bunched up compression shorts in the middle of a match. No Nadal action for me if I can help it.

The shirts (large) were fine, but I don't need a shirt that has no buddy skort, or another white cap sleeve. So they will go back also.

Nice fabric, nice looking skort if you like simple - and I do - but just not a match.

Reebok-

I threw these in the order cart on a whim. Wasn't even really wild about them by picture, but the attraction was that they were only 12" long. Like a petite skort. I'm always looking for that.

I ordered the lilac summer move skort and the orange summer vision skort (would have prefered the light green but it was out of stock) in medium.

Very nice! The fit was great, the length was perfect. And they were not too busy, which I had feared. I like simple, practical athletic skorts in general - usually I wear Nike boarder or Adidas because of this. But these were not too much.

The lilac move skort has simple pleats at the very bottom on the back. It is a nice touch. You get your simple skort in front, with a little flair in the back. It hangs well.

The move skort has cutout patterns along the whole hem about 2 inches up, and is a fauxe wrap around. Again, not too busy, but kind of highlights an otherwise plain skort. Fit was great.

Nice compression shorts on both of these. I will keep them. Whenever I find something that fits, I usually just buy it. But I like these.

There you go. My mini review on skorts from TW.

BTW, the Nike Fit Dry socks are very thin and are going back. I'm picky about my socks and they will not do.

The irony of this whole scenario is that I was buying a few skorts as a treat to wear at Nationals (we qualified last weekend). My team has never had an outfit or even a color theme. Now they have decided to go with a color theme consisting of basic colors. No lilac or orange to be worn :-| Oh well, I still like the skorts.

Hope this helps! Oh, and I forgot. In the Nike boarder skort I wear a junior XL trying to get a shorter fit. I still end up rolling the waistband once on the inside. In adidas I wear an adult medium.

No, not the navy/white one...the ones that are all one color. All white, or all black. Can not find it anywhere! Just as well, I doubt I could afford it.

Shell, great write up! Hmmm, junior Nike skorts in XL??? I'm a bit taller than you (like by 3/4 of an inch), so I wonder if I could pull that off? Do you find that they don't accommodate hips though?

Topaz, the Nike boarder junior is a little long and straight, but it has the little slits on both sides. I have a bubble butt, and it works fine. Might be worth a try. I've never tried the adult version though.

Another short skort that I love the fit of is an Adidas one - basic white and black. It is from the line that has the yellow/gold shirt - don't remember the name, but TW still has them also. They fit like petites, a bit shorter through the body. Also fake wrap around, so has some wiggle room.

Shell, that's great info on the Kwiss and Reebok clothes.

I just got the new Nike polka dot border skirt with a matching border tank and the fit is great. Nike has re-sized their fall clothes and the fit is not so tight. Medium sized people can now actually wear medium sized Nike tops. And the size small skirts seem to fit me nicely once again. I have not gained or lost any weight, but for the last couple of years I needed a size medium Nike skirt......now I'm back to the small. So it must be the sizing.

Any compression shorts I've bought cut me in half no matter what size I buy, it's so disheartening :(

I couldn't wear dresses for ages until I bought two skorts on **** that were too big for me and I just cut them up and hey presto.....compression shorts!! Kinda. They work for me anyway.

Almost all my tennis clothes (and I have a serious amount) are Nike as I buy everything on **** and I know what size will fit me. I can't really buy from TW as in Ireland we get fleeced for costoms and VAT and all sorts so it just ends up being really expensive. Moving to Boston in Sept though so that won't be a problem anymore!!

MY favourite dresses at the minute are the Nike Athlete dresses and the white one with teh little velvet band going around the waist.

Tennis clothes are SO hard to come by in Ireland and with the customs it's not worth getting them from TW so I can't wait to move and try new styles!!

Tell me this.....over here you are kinda frowned at for wearing proper tennis outfits....PLEASE tell me you can still be fashionable playing in the States cos I LOVE my tennis fashion!!! :D

Buckfast, that is what I like about the Bolle shorts, they do that the least of any that I have.

Can you order from Tennis Warehouse Europe and not get so fleeced?

I get pretty much all my stuff from the 'bay' as well...I just can't justify 55 bucks for a tank top.

I have two Nike dresses that I'm really just waiting to wear...one is the light blue 'Bloom' dress and the other is Serena's French Open dress from two (?) years ago...cream colored with navy accents and a little navy belt. Alice301 found that one for me at TJMaxx for only 20 bucks!!!

And, don't worry, we ladies here in the states are holding up the 'fashion reins' if you will! :)

I have grown to like JJ's dress from USO series

http://i31.tinypic.com/2eov6zq.jpg

Jankovic wears the same skirt playing Rogers cup in Toronto this week. The thing is every match she wears the same one and it looks like she has only one skirt. :(

I shot a video when she served a Ace playing Clijsters.

Sorry for the double post. But there's no one better to answer my question than you guys.

Which brand does decent compression shorts for the ladies? :( I haven't dug up anything decent.

Bolle Essentials. They make a $17 black or white compression short. I have a drawer full of them. I have been using them for years, and I finally noticed that two of them wore through in the crotch.

Just ordered four more as replacements.

[edit: Thanks for the props, Topaz! The Bolles really are nice. The sweatier they get, the better they cling and are less likely to ride up. I live in dread that Bolle will stop making them. As far as UA goes, they were a nightmare for me. The rode up in the most aggressive way, no matter what size. I have Junk In The Trunk, so I cannot have that. I got rid of them.]

Ladies, let me warn you away from something.

Nike has some tops in sage. They looked nice in the pic, so I ordered them from TW:

http://img.tennis-warehouse.com/ProductImages/NWWMDT-WH.JPG

Looks good, right? What could go wrong?

Two things. First, do you see the seam on the side in the front? Looks harmless, no? In fact, it is not a seam. It is a flap. So when you put it on, there is this inch-wide flap winging out. Worse, it wings out more wherever the shirt stretches more -- as though someone has put post-it notes on your shirt to mark each spot where you have a fat roll. Very unattractive and completely unwearable for me.

Second, some Nike stuff has what I will call "pasties." Instead of an actual bra cup or shelf bra, they have little triangles where your boobs should be. The material is thin, so you get this outline of the cup, plus an unfortunate view of whatever has strayed away from the triangle.

I felt like returning it by bike messenger to get it away from my house just that much faster.

I like them. I don't like the price tag, though!

I generally would like to see women's shoes in more than just white and pink! For instance, the men got Black nikes with a red swoosh!! I want that!!!!

But again, I do like the designs, too. Maybe I'll try to get some of those when they go on sale.

I would pay Big Bucks for any women's shoe in all black. I think they would look fierce.

I am not a fan of pastels and pinks on my tennis shoes. I do have a pair of pink Barricade Vs, but that is because they were on sale and I couldn't justify paying extra just because I don't like pink.

I did think very hard about it, though.

Cindy, Prince has the T22 in all black. Can't remember if it is on TW, but you could take a trip to the Mid West and find them. They look kind of clunky in the pics, but the reviews for that shoe always rave about the cushioning, and it is still a performace shoe - so, maybe not too clunky feeling.

They also have a black and yellow one, which I am considering. Never worn black shoes before, so it is an experiment :)

Ho boy, those all-black ones do look clunky; can't imagine how clunky they would look in size 9. It would hard to look fierce wearing Frankenstein shoes! :) It's not just the black ones; the entire Prince line looks clunky.

Maybe we should both take a flier on the black and yellow ones. Those remind me of a yellow jacket . . . .

Cindy, I don't think they are any 'clunkier' than the Barricades, and you liked those didn't you?

*Everything* is lighter than Barricades! That is one heavy, rigid show. :)

When I say "clunky," I mean from a fashion standpoint. The Prince line just doesn't look sleek or chic to me, which is why I haven't bought any.

BTW, you might like the Gel Resolution. I have a pair that I alternate with my Barricade Vs. So far, no PF problems. Then again, given these huge orthotics I wear, I probably could wear Chuck Taylors on court and not have the PF return.

Alright, I just ordered the bumblebee Prince T22s. I'm slowly working my way through all the brands, and I had not tried Prince before. I'm a toe dragger, so I go through about 4 -5 pairs per year.

Topaz, I second Cindy's rec. on the Asics. They are about my favs, and I will probably settle down with some version when I go through my try everything phase. I used the women's Gel Res I, and I am currently wearing the Men's Gel Res IIs (white with orange). The men's have a narrow toe box for a mens tenni, and I have a wide foot so it works out.

Adidas and Nike are not my favorites for various reasons.

I should do a shoe review :)

Me neither. Which is why i'm always buying men's tennis shoes, they just seem to make them in better colours/designs. And what's more the store never runs out of shoes in my tiny feet size. Having said i don't like pastels and pink, i do still like this very much.

Now that I have dissed Nike, let me endorse something else Bolle makes.

I have one of these tops in white, and it is one of my favorites. It is the right length, the fabric has variety in the texture, and it has lasted several seasons. I had two and discarded one for awful underarm stains, but I now see I just wasn't washing it right. I just ordered another white one and I sprung for black also:

http://img.tennis-warehouse.com/ProductImages/BBWST-BK.JPG

Also, I am a big fan of these notched skirts. I have them in every color they make, and they are truly bullet-proof. Every one looks new. The length is kinda short-ish, but I like that. I have the lime green, and I always get compliments on it. It has a stain on it (lesson learned: never cook dinner wearing your tennis gear), so I am replacing it with this one:

I have never had a bad experience with Bolle.

Ohhhh, my bumblebees arrived today....out of the box bliss. They are not clunky at all. Any weight feels at the bottom, with the top part of the shoe mostly mesh and feeling like a foam glove around your foot. I've only worn them around the house, but I've not had tennis shoes that felt this good right away ever before. They feel like they fit wide though, which is fine for me, but if you have a narrow foot these might rub. Definitely worth a try if you are looking for a comfortable, relatively inexpensive shoe. Possibly my new favorite - to rival Asics in comfort. Time on the court will tell.

PS - they have many different colors, so you don't have to go grey/gold if you are a bit shy :)

PSS - I also ordered a pair of men's Nike Vapor VIs. They are the total opposite. Out of the box pain, with very moderate cushioning. Much break in needed, and even then, they would not be my favs. I've given up on Adidas, and now Nike for tennis shoes. There are just cheaper and better options out there (Asics and now Prince are topping my list)

PSSSSSSS - Also got some Asics mens Enquist Plus. On sale in small sizes. Comfortable, low to the ground feel. Moderate plus cushioning and feel fast. Not sexy, but another good option if you can do mens shoes. Good value for the price. Not as wide feeling as the ladies Princes, but not too narrow either. Moderate arch. Good all around feel.

I was just coming over here to say the same thing. I mean, it was All Wrong for her. She was clearly uncomfortable in it, as she adjusted the back of it constantly. There must have been quite a breeze swooping under that little skirt!

It is interesting that these tennis companies don't seem to realize that if a player wears their clothing and looks bad in them, this will not encourage a club player to buy the item.

Any good recommendations for skirts or dress that will fit my wide hips and my skinny waist. I am so sick of all the skirts being about 3 inches too big in the waist.

I have wide hips, although I wouldn't go so far as to say I have a skinny waist. I have major trouble with Nike and pretty much any skort. If I get a smaller size, it is too tight in the butt, and the bigger size is too big in the waist and the compression short is too loose to hold the ball. I find the best solution is to get the right skirt and then find the right compression short separately.

I have had success with Bolle's notched skirt and a Lejay 4-panel skirt (very drapey). I haven't seen the Lejay in a while, but then again I haven't looked.

I liked the dress, but I didn't like the black and silver version. The silver reminded me of "Lost in Space: Danger, Will Robinson, Danger." I liked the day version, especially the hot yellow on the shoulders.

I like Maria's clothing to be as outrageous as possible, as she is the only one who can pull off some of those looks.

Cindy, did you get the skirt without compression?

Cindysphinx

I did order that Bolle notched skirt without compression. When it arrived, I took it out of the box and immediately sent it back without opening the bag. The green was wrong -- too yellowish. I was hoping for a deeper green like my other one.

So it goes when ordering blind off of the Internet . . .

Does anyone know the length of the compression shorts in the KSwiss wrap skirts?

I really liked Kim Clijsters Fila outfit at the US Open. I wanted to buy it, but it seems to be sold out everywhere. I'm not a big fan of cap sleeves, but those looked more like short sleeves. Cap sleeves have a way of making even thin and toned arms look like Dick Butkus arms. Has anyone else noticed that?

I'm not sure on the compression shorts.

Did you try the fila site itself?

I hear you on the cap sleeves...I always seem to like them better on others than I do on myself.

It was interesting to hear why skorts work so poorly for me. They sit too low. I hadn't realized that was the problem. I just knew there was a problem.

Nice post, but remember, women's sizes are all over the map, and two women of the same size won't necessarily be shaped the same way. (referring to the comment that a 14 will wear an XL...I'm a 10/12 and a solid M).

I tried on some of the Bolle skirts, but they sit too high for me. I am very short waisted and the skirts without built in shorts ride up. Does anyone know if the Bolle Basic Skorts sit below the waist? Slightly below the waist works best for me, like a lot of the Nike's. Adidas are way too low below the waist. I'm wondering about these Bolle basics skorts.

That funky FILA tracktop worn to victory by Kim Clijsters in New York has disappeared from every online tennis retailer. I'm amazed - did it really fly off the shelves after all that exposure? C'mon FILA - bring it back...
Admittedly I'm a male who was hoping there was an XL/XXL for myself. The jacket really looked awesome. The men's version was lame, it lacked the old skool slimfit cut and colourway.

Ladies!!! Where are y'all? :)

In a recent order to TW for grommets and grip, I thought 'hey, let's check out the liquidation section' and get that total up to 75 for some free 2 day shipping!

I picked up two tops, one Nike border top and a Puma tee:

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k90/topaz720/DSC00243.jpg

Interesting to note: this is my first 'updated' border top, and I really like how they restyled it. It also has a 'built-in' bra which the tanks never had before. The Puma tee is very nice and soft...I'm not sure I'm going to play tennis in it! Probably save it for 'regular' wear.

Also, size wise...the Puma is a L and the Nike a M...I've always found Puma to run pretty small. The Nike fits me comfortably, and the tee is a bit big in the body, but perfect 'up top'.

Aaaaand, there is some *sweet* new Fila stuff out!

Hi ladies!!! How's the tennis these days?

My spring team is using the Nike trend group as our uniform. I got these two pieces, which just came today:

http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Nike_Womens_Flash_Break_Point_Trend_Tank/descpageWANIKE-NWFLBTA.html#

http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Nike_Womens_Flash_Break_Point_Skort/descpageWANIKE-NWFLBPS.html

We are all trading emails, laughing a bit, because the pink is almost a neon pink, and we're all having '80s flashbacks. It is super cute, though, and I ended up liking it more than I thought I would. I also plan to pick up the tank in gray, if TW ever gets it back. The fabric is very, very soft.

Also...fit on the top is very generous...I got a medium, but if I get another, I will be getting a small. I've had to go to a small in Nike tops a lot lately...and I don't *I'm* getting any smaller. I wish sizing would be more standard!

I've been grudgingly testing the waters with skorts. I'm still not sure what I think.

I haven't bought any tops lately, but I ordered two pairs of new shoes: new Barricade Vs in white/black/yellow, and the Prince grey and yellow ones. They are on sale, so I'll give them a go.

OK, I received my eagerly-awaited order from TW, consisting of two different pairs of shoes and three skirts (one backordered, so more on that later).

First, the Prince T22 shoes:

http://img.tennis-warehouse.com/new_big/PT22WGY-1.jpg

As you can see, these are some weird-looking shoes. And I love them! They feel pretty good. I put my custom orthotics in them and I can really feel the arch support, so I hope they don't cause me to have PF again. I think they'll look pretty slick with all-black attire.

I also ordered a replacement pair of Barricade Vs. They are basically white and black. No personality. Oh well.

In my never-ending quest to find skirts without compression shorts, I ordered this from Nike:

http://img.tennis-warehouse.com/new_product/NWSASK-NV-1.jpg

You know, if something is reduced from $55 to $25, that ought to be a clue that there is a problem, no? There is a big problem with this skirt. The pleating design goes completely around the skirt, exactly the same in front and back and sides. Which means I had very large pleats directly on my butt. The effect looked like some sort of Lollipop Kids costume from "The Wizard of Oz." Truly ghastly.

I also decided to try yet again to find a skort that will fit right. I got this one from Nike:

http://img.tennis-warehouse.com/new_big/NWFRSPS-GR-1.jpg

Such a nice fabric, such a pretty purple. Alas, I had the same problem I usually have with skorts. I get a bump of fabric right underneat the waistband in back. I only get it with skorts, not skirts. Very frustrating. It too will be sent back.

You know, I can actually sew a little bit, but I misplaced my sewing machine. (I know, I know, how does a person lose a sewing machine?) Anyway, I found it last week. I think I am just going to buy some fabric and just make myself some darn skirts and be done with it.

First, they look very chic, very hip, very different, very *young." Got lots of compliments on them.

Second, they inspired me. I don't know why, but I just felt like I should *move* wearing those shoes. I would look down and think, "Let's go!"

Third, they felt light and flexible. After two hours, I might have felt a slight pang of PF, so I will be watching for that. I imagine they will be OK. They would look weird with a lot of my tennis skirts, so I wouldn't wear them all the time anyway. As an occasional pick-me-up, these are perfect.

01-24-2010, 11:56 AM
I actually ordered them in all black and sent them back.

The problem is my socks. I wear Thorlos, and they are a bit high. The contract was just too much.

I have a friend who wears the black Princes, and she is on the fence because of the problem finding socks that look right. She has very small feet, so the black looks cute on her. On me, not so much.

Cindysphinx

You know, I ordered a pair of the black T22s and sent them back. I wear Thorlos, and they come up a little high. High white sock with all-black shoe did not work.

I have a friend who uses the black shoe, and she is struggling to find a nice sock also. The shoe looks better on her because she has little feet, so it looks cute.

The team colors are cool, no doubt about it. But they still are white. If they did a black or gray shoe with those colors, I'd be all over it.

I'm actually thinking of sending back the Barricades and getting a second pair of the Princes. I am worried about the PF issue, though. By the time I give these Princes a nice test period, they may be sold out of the gray princes. Hmmmm . . . .

What are you wearing these days, Topaz?

What are you wearing these days, Topaz?

Since my adidas a3 prevails are discontinued and I finally had to stop wearing my last hoarded pair...that's a darn good question.

I'm currently wearing Adidas CC Ivy that I picked up on sale. Very light shoe, and while I'm enjoying that, the fit is a bit long (as it says on the TW site), and I've started having some of my old ankle pain coming back. I have put a lot of tennis in the past two days, and have another match tonight...and I worry that these will not be stable enough.

But I like how light they are...so now I'm kind of eye-ing up the Barricade IIs.

Cindy, I bought the Bolle Basics compression short since you highly recommend it. They are very comfortable, and they don't ride up. Thanks for the tip!

Regarding shoes, every time I stray from KSwiss, I regret it. I bought a pair of men's Fila Alfa 2's since the women's was too narrow. The shoe felt great, but after wearing them twice, my "dormant" plantar faciitis flared up. Very frustrating. Seems that all of the KSwiss shoes work for me. I don't know why I stray from them. The Stabilor seems to work well for me.

Cindysphinx

Kswiss was one of the shoes I tried to change to when I first got PF. They didn't help, and I got nasty blood blisters on the ball of my feet and had to take time off.

Topaz, Barricade II was the shoe that gave me PF. Beware.

Catfish, I'm glad you like the Bolle Basics compression short. They are really good, aren't they? I like how they keep a very firm grip on the ball.

On a related subject, I have purchased a fabric and a pattern to make my own tennis skirt. The pattern is for a figure skating skirt, so I figure that should work. I plan to make sure this skirt has a bit extra to house my Junk In The Trunk, and I will customize the length. Cost for materials was $19, which is enough to make two skirts, plus the pattern ($8).

I hope I don't mess this up!

Ok ladies, I need serious shoe help!

Started off in the Princes T20s tonight, switched after warm up because they are just too hot and uncomfortable. Put on the Adidas and my ankle started hurting after about 10 minutes...just not enough support. Went back into the Princes to finish out and was moving better, but I can't continue to play in them.

So, ladies, I ask you....what shoes are y'all wearing?!?

And is my goal of finding something under 100 even somewhat realistic?!?

MissJennieB
01-27-2010, 07:50 PM
I wore the KSwiss Stabilor SLS last year. Loved the shoe but decided to try something else as it gave serious case of black toe (I think it had to do with the size of the shoe). And they did not fare well in hot weather either. I just ordered a new pair of the nike BF 2k10 so we'll see how those work out. I saw really good reviews with that and know several people who wear them.

What exactly are you looking for? Comfort? Breathability? Durability?

Topaz
01-27-2010, 07:54 PM
Durability for my ankle, as well as a medium to higher arch, and it would be nice to not have it weigh a ton, either! I used to wear (and loved) the Adidas a3 Prevail, but they were discontinued. Tiffani has suggest the Head shoes, but they are a bit pricey for me (says the gal who is calling around looking for a 50 tank!).

I have checked out those Nikes several times...let us know what you think when you get them!

Cindysphinx
01-28-2010, 07:50 PM
I have been wearing the Prince T22, in gray/yellow. I wore them for the second time on Wednesday in a day match, and again today for a lesson, both on clay.

Two noteworthy things about them. First, they are striking. When I walk onto a court, the opponents look at my shoes and ask me what they are and where I got them. That's kinda fun!

Second, I am feeling no pangs of PF. I feel like I really glide in these shoes, rather than clomping around in the Barricades.

So I sent back the Barricade Vs I had ordered and got two pairs of these gray and yellow Princes, as they are on sale and I am afraid they will soon be discontinued. I'll put them in the closet and put them into the rotation in a few months, once I have finished trashing my Gel Resolutions and old Barricade Vs.

I'm very frustrated.

I have a Tail skirt I like very much, but it is 4 years old and on its last legs. As luck would have it, the construction of it is very simple and exactly like the pattern I bought. And I managed to find a bright orange fabric on the remnant table for $2.97 a yard, so I could make myself a skirt for $1.50 plus thread and elastic. Sweet!

Trouble is, my sewing machine bites. I bought it for $200 in 1991, and it just cannot handle a delicate knit. It made a complete mess of the skirt. It's not good for anything more complicated than making a cotton shower curtain apparently.

My next plan is to contact the local high school and hire one of the members of the school's Fashion Club (yes, there really is such a thing). They do a fashion show every spring, and these kids can sew. I will ask one of them to make a skirt out of my fabric to match the Tail one.

Wish me luck!

I have bouts of plantar faciitis if I'm not careful about shoes. I've tried many, but KSwiss seems to work best for me. Recently, I've been wearing the Stabilor with the mesh top. They are very cushioned, and a little on the heavy side. But they are a lot lighter than Adidas Barricade V's. I tried Barricade's for a while, but went back to the Stabilors. Barricades are too heavy and stiff. Other Kswiss shoes that I like are the Ultrascendor and the Defier.

I never liked Prince shoes. They always felt very "clunky", for lack of a better word. Nikes are way too narrow for me, and my foot is medium width. I know a lot of women who like New Balance, and I tried them once. They didn't have enough cushioning IMO.

I guess everyone has very different feet, so different things work for different people. As for me, I'm going to stick with KSwiss.

^^^Hmmm, thanks for the feedback catfish.

I wore the Princes again this morning, for singles. I ended up taking out the Prince insole (which is actually kind of nice) and putting in my half-length Dr. Scholl's insole, and they were pretty good. That gave my feet just the little bit more room that they needed. Ankle feels good, foot feels good.

But yes, I would agree with the 'clunky' assessment.

Y'all are giving me good ideas though...keep 'em coming! These Princes won't last until the season starts, that's for sure!

As promised, for MissJennie, the two pieces of the Nike Flash group that we're hunting down:

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k90/topaz720/95f1e1dd.jpg

The tank is a medium, and it pretty big...though I can go either small or medium in Nike these days on top. It is very nice, though, and the back is all mesh in the gray color.

Skirt is a medium as well, and a super soft material...inside pink part of the skirts is actually mesh, and you can see the little tie on the side....you can tighten it to create a 'ruching' effect.

This is also for Jennie, the older Adidas pieces from last year...some of my favorites:

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k90/topaz720/5718cbec.jpg

Skirt medium, tops are smalls actually...I guess I just need the bigger size on bottom for my...bottom! Lol...Jennie, I love the tops, but no matter what I do for a sports bra, it always peeks over the front of the top. I wish they would have put a good built-in bra in those.

Skirt is very cute and fun, but on the *short* side! Lol!

And finally, just got this:

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k90/topaz720/652ef920.jpg

This is the older 'trend' tank that Azarenka was wearing last year...it is on sale now. I have it in this purple and white (in the wash!) and I *love* them. I have smalls for both of these...fit is on the generous side. Super soft...I might get a few more before they all disappear.

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k90/topaz720/95f1e1dd.jpg

Thanks for the pics! I'm absolutely in love with the pink/gray colors (obviously so does the rest of the women in the tennis world). Can't wait to receive my tank and skirt in the mail! I'll post pics when I receive them. It's like opening up a gift whenever I receive a package from TW lol! You're not going to believe this, but I have the purple Nike tank (and yellow!) as well. Told you we're twins! Or we just have good taste in tennis fashion :) Those Adidas shoes are way cute! I have the same bra issue with the adidas adilibria tanks as you do. But they're probably still my favorite adidas outfits. I can't wait to see more of your collection!

^^I forgot to add that your team is going to look so cute wearing the matching Flash line outfits! So is the tank pretty generous in terms of size? The white/green tank from the Sharapova line that I bought is kinda tight (it must just run small).

Hi Jennie!

I think I was the latest among the team to get my things, so yes, we will all be rocking the Flash line! Still wish I had the gray tank, but I've even called the Nike store in NYC, and no dice. I did order a few Nike tops in gray, though, that I found by doing a color search on their website.

I do think the tank is quite generous. I don't mind it being longer, but it gaps under my armpits and in the chest area...that's the issue I sometimes have with mediums. Another teammate and I are thinking that maybe we can get ours altered.

I bet it is just a matter of different lines running differently...Sharapova is so skinny, I'm not surprised her line runs small!

I was looking at the trend tank in yellow, too...looks good when you have a tan!

The adidas shoes are super cute and so nice and light, but they make my ankle unhappy (I have some tendonitis issues).

Anyone knows where to get the bandana Serena was wearing? It looks different to the ones the men normally wear.

I'm not sure, but yes, it is different from the men's...it is more of a headband, and I thought it looked like it had some ruching in the back (the part that is under her hair). Did you try checking the Nike site?

I also had my eye on Serena's headband. I wear black bandanas from one of those military surplus stores because I am Fundamentally Cheap and won't spend $15 if I can get the job done for $1.

Still, that thing looked comfy . . . .

Cindy -- who feels weird going into those military surplus stores

Some pictures for you ladies!

First, the two pairs of shoes I'm using right now...I love the lightness of the Adidas CCs, but need the support of the Prince's for my ankle.

All right. Tonight is the night.

In my never-ending quest to find tennis skirts rather than skorts, I have purchased a hot orange Nike tennis skort. My plan is to take a pair of scissors to this brand new, $30 item and remove the compression shorts and slam dunk them into the trash. Hopefully I will be left with a nicely fitting skirt.

I got it on sale at Sports Authority, and they only had one. It seems like it would fit well if the stupid compression shorts weren't pulling down on the waistband. What is up with that?

If I ruin it, I will cry my eyes out.

It looks kind of like this one, but it is all one color and is a brighter shade of orange:

Well, it worked! The compression shorts are in the trash, and the skirt hangs perfectly.

I cut the shorts out of a Fila skirt. The skirts hangs OK, but it rides up a little in the back without the compression shorts to hold it down. Maybe it's because I have too much "junk in the trunk". I bet it will work better with the Nike skirt since the waistband is wider. Let me know if it works once you've played in the skirt.

I will report back.

I think my own junk in the trunk is the reason I have so much trouble with skorts. The excess baggage has to go somewhere, so it pulls the waistband down and creates a hump. So I wind up with Junk Hump, which is not a good look.

It will be a while before I wear this Nike skirt, though. The fabric is very . . . demanding. It is going to show every gram of weight. I need to drop a few before I'll be truly comfortable in it.

Hey Topaz,
I was in the pro-shop of the Palmetto Dunes club in Hilton Head. They still have a bunch of the white and the grey tops you were looking for in all sizes.
Don't know if they ship, but if you still NEED one they might help.

Hey Sumo, sorry I somehow missed this reply! Thanks for the info, but I actually got ahold of one that someone else was selling. If it doesn't fit, I'm going to sell it on the bay for what I think will end up being a million dollars! These tops are evidently hot commodity!

Bump!!

Spring adult season is here. Time to see what everyone's wearing.

I haven't bought much stuff, but I am in the market for a tennis dress. Singles players are entitled to wear tennis dresses, right?

So far, it has been a nightmare.

I tried this dress on in Medium:

http://img.tennis-warehouse.com/new_product/NWNAOD-BK-1.jpg

It was huge on me. Absolutely huge. So huge I actually got my reading glasses out of my purse to make sure I hadn't seen "M" when the dress really said "XXXL." Usually a Nike medium will be on the tight side, so this was a shocker.

I also tried a white Fila dress. It was really cute. Almost perfect. But of course there was a problem. It had a built-in shelf bra that made no sense. The shelf bra was huge, so big that it was actually visibly lumpy under the dress.

So. Can anyone recommend a brand of tennis dresses that will accommodate someone who is basically a medium, but who has some junk in the trunk? Not a lot of junk, just enough to keep things interesting back there.

I find tennis dresses difficult if you have a less than flat mid-section. That said I have found a couple of good options, mainly because of the fabric used which skims rather than clings to the body.

Eliza Audley uses a good fabric for this: http://www.tennisidentity.com/tennisidentitycom/eliza-audley/
as does Loup:

I love wearing dresses myself.

I also meant to mention Peachy Tan as good option! Really good for no cling as well. The styles offer good coverage and don't cling to the perennially problematic for many, mid-section and hips. Most of what is offered here at Tennis Warehouse is separates in Peachy Tan but you can create a dress look using the coordinating solids.

My friend is a M and has lovely lady lumps, she always goes for adidas dresses. In particular the Stella range, but they are quite pricey.
