I play Varsity tennis for my high school, and now that the season is over, I just play tennis with my friends. However, I want to play more competitively and such, so I'd like to start playing tournaments, and I have a few questions.
Are there many tournaments in the NYC/Long Island area?
How much do tournaments usually cost?
Since I'm kind of a beginner (2 years playing), I don't want to enter a tournament and not win a single game. Do they have tournaments for beginners?
Thanks!

Yes there are tournaments on Long Island and NYC for beginners. On Long Island they are called L3's.

How competitive are the L3's, exactly? And how "beginner" is a L3 tournament?

Its a timed round robin with other beginners.

I'd consider myself maybe a 3.0 player; do you think I would be competitive for beginner tournaments?

Also, would I be playing against people around my age? I'm 17, by the way.

Not sure about your specific area, but tournaments are almost always seperated into age groups.
An average cost would be like $50.

Thanks for the info. What can I expect from a beginner touranment-level player? Will he or she be able to hit powerful groundstrokes and serve incredibly fast? I just don't know how "beginner" a beginners tournament really is.

Any thoughts on the matter?
