Take the counter-puncher out of his comfort zone, often you will see Federer (aggressive baseliner who can also counter-punch) either bring Nadal (counter-puncher) to the net or move to the net himself, he wins most of the points when it's NOT on a slow court.

This means you need to work on your VOLLEYING skills and your approach shots. Counter-punching is becoming outdated in this modern day due to the racquet technology.

What's a counter puncher?

It's someone who plays a defensive game like a pusher but has real tennis skills that they will use for hitting winners off the opponents attacks.

For example they might hit into a cross court rally waiting for their opponent to try to hit down the line - and then hit cross court again for the winner (assuming said player didn't miss the DTL shot).

Pete,
It sounds like a necessary skill/tactic that every good player needs to acquire at some point. I mean, don't you defend when you need to defend and attack when you have a chance? How else would you play?
