View Full Version : 'Jump' Serve

I was just wondering if anyone under 18 jumps when they serve. I have tried it, and I cannot seem to master it.
Please post experiences :)

are you trying to purposely jump vertically to hit the ball after you toss the ball up? I don't get your question.

If you mean throw the ball slightly forwards and then jump to hit it, landing just in court (not foot-faulting), most people do that. A lot of service speed comes from your legs.
If you mean jumping up, I can't really see the point.

I mean how the pros serve, they almost always go airborn when they serve. When I serve, I never leave the ground.

Its imposible not to go airborne unless you dink the serve in.
They go airborne because thats one of the laws of phyisics, and it happens naturally not because it looks cool.
If you dont get off the ground then either you are not trying to serve hard, have poor technique, or just simply not at that level (don't take it personally)

Lol I wasn't saying that it looked cool :/
And I guess it was a bad post anyway. My serves are pretty fast and I never leap (lack of better words) into the air like the professionals.

Take a video of yourself from the side, play it in slow motion, and then you'll see that if you have any decent form of weight transfer, you automatically spring off the ground like at least 1 foot.
