Flat, I'd agree around 95 or so, but can't tell from one vid.
He's young and strong, swings fast.
He has bad technique, not employing much more than shoulder and arm, lifts his toes starting the motion, doesn't set the trophy, doesn't hesitate between ball bounce and motion.
Not saying he can't get to 120 pretty easily, but he would need to use some physical effort besides just arming thru the motion.

I think he can serve alot faster if he bends his knees more and transfers his weight into the serve. A sign of good weight transfer is when his momentum is strong enough to carry him a few feet into the court.

What a beautiful court.

Solidly struck. Those saying below 80mph are most likely joking. There's no reason a number of those weren't above 100mph. They definitely were not all the same speed. Without a radar gun, it's mostly speculation.

That's is an amazing court.

Most likely 100+. Wouldn't be surprised if that's a 110 serve. Not 120 though, that's abit too high. Would hear a much louder crack.

Whatttttt.... That sh*t is hitting the fence, I agree with more than 100! And his technique is not bad, he definitely could put more into it and . I go with 110-120, benefit of the doubt you know :p

85, about. And nice ones, also I'm jealous of that court.

Definitely not all of them at the same speed, I'd say some between 100-110, some ~95 mph.
Could do a bit more with the knees more employed...

O RLY?

I agree it's not 120 though, not by the sound because that depends on external factors, but judging by how long it takes to land in the box.

What about these two?

Always wondered about the general consensus on the speed of those serves. Sorry about the low quality.

My best guess would be upper 80's, lower 90's.

My eyes too old for the second vid..
But first posted vid, that guy is serving maybe 65% of his potential. He uses little legdrive, trunkturn, torso snap, and is basically just arming thru the serve, going thru the motions, little thought, explosion, hesitation (to load up), and kinetic deployment.
He's a fit kid, so I give him 95, but when he learns to serve for real, he can achieve 125.
If you give him anything over 105 right now, then you'd concede he would serve well over 140 when he develops some kind of decent technique.
Not possible for him. Not possible for me, not possible for YOU.

The second one is definitely 100+ mph.

Anyone here saying that is below 90mph is just plain stupid. And jealous. Have you watched Elena Dementieva's 1st serves or Murray's 2nd serves? Murray's 2nd are around 85mph and this is way faster than that. Elena's are around 100mph and this is on par if not faster.

1- about 100
2 & 3- mid 90s
4- high 90s
5- 100+
6- 100+
7- high 90s

Exactly. I'd GUESS your best one was about 110, max.

When I had my radar gun I would work on my serve speed and I had a friend who was only 20 and he had a very hard serve that no one at the local club could return, but rarely. We all guessed it had to be at least 120 mph. Turns out his fastest serve was 112. I was serving 105 and everyone was returning mine! :( What was most surprising was the best club players actually had fairly slow serves, often hitting second serves in the 70's. Under 5.0, this is common, IMHO.

Well since you're young you're just mostly hammering it with your arm. It's pretty good though. But, are they going in? Maybe you could signal the camera if they're in. Like "finger down" is IN and "finger up" is OUT.

What you have is great. I also agree with other people. There is more potential stored inside. It's like upgrading from an old iPhone to that new iPhone 3G S. Old iPhone is great but the new one is faster.

What a beautiful court.

Tell me about it... where is that court? Let's go crash it

All those sounds of nature in the background...

hmm, i was wondering, if someone was able to extract frame by frame of this video, we could get the timing of where the racquet first hits the ball and where it first bounces, and then divide by the distance the ball has travelled. is that possible?

granted it won't be that accurate but at least it would provide a rough gauge?

I'd be surprised if he was breaking 100 regularly. The first few seemed slower. The last few may have been 100, but you'd be surprised if you had a radar gun.

My doubles partner serves quite hard and gets a lot of free points when his serve is on. He rarely hits over 95mph on the gun. Even counting the ones that don't go in.

My serve at about 110mph will hit the back fence about 6 feet up still rising. As far as I know, I've never played against anyone who serves as hard as I do. All I know is that when I hit it clean people are often just concerned with getting out of the way more than hitting it.

If you can control the placement of your serve well, 100mph is all you will ever need. If you hit into the middle of the box, 120mph is probably not enough against better players. They will catch up to your serve eventually and starting getting balls in play. Then your ground game is going to get tested.

First off, beautiful courts!

Secondly, my guess is definitely over 100 mph for most of them, however, how much above 100 is hard to guess without being there in person or without having radar verification.
