No, didn't come out. Girlfriend wanted to watch "Bachelorette" and I caved. I was a bit tired. Did you come out? (Thanks for the email invite btw!!!). Do you go to Shatto often? If so, when?

That's definitely me. Played for the first time in a while yesterday.
The rust was really thick. Need some wd40 and lots of practice.

Still there, along with their fried goodness pervading the tennis courts. This past week smelled like onion rings/burgers/fries. YUM!

There is another set of courts by the 101 and Glendale blvd. I'm trying to think of other courts in the Mid-Wilshire area, and the only one that comes to mind is the old Ambasador Hotel. Then again that was 30 years ago. ;)

3191 W. 4th St

Be weary of parking. If you're parked on the wrong side of the street at the wrong hour your car will be towed.

But aside from that, there's some good hitting at Shatto Park.

btw, what racquet are you using these days?
i moved recently. now closer to downtown and now

seen. completely worn out and smooth.

btw, there are lots of halfway decent courts in LA that are
either sometimes free, free or only have a small fee.
off the top of my head:

sherman oaks (decent)
griffith park (near the fountain on riverside)
poinsettia park (ok)
north hollywood park (a little older)
plummer park (some old and some newly resurfaced)
west hollywood park (good condition)
la cienega tennis center (name?)
some courts in brentwood, santa monica (decent/gd)

all of the above are in exponentially better condition than shatto, imo.

Oh, thanks for wondering! I've been looking for a frame similar to the i.Prestige but with an open pattern and a tame sweet spot, and the closest thing I can find is the Prestige Pro. I tried the POG OS and I couldn't control the open pattern.

I agree that Shatto Park is pretty worn down/takes time to adjust on, and that there are plenty of other options. But no one said it was the best surface or the best option either.

Nice meeting Billy Idol and Sephiroth.

Billy Idol, after you left, I was partnered with the worst doubles partner a person could ever hope for. I was done after that. I wanted Sephiroth and Alpine to beat us, but Alpine wasn't exactly cooperating.

And I went to that burrito place. I hope I make it through the night. It was like eating a sleeping bag stuffed with rice.

You're a funny guy. Your serves would be pretty potent on those courts.
The area behind the baseline is very short so the return is forced to stand
in and can't move back to buy more time. They are probably the fastest
courts I have ever played on. Lowrise, indoor basketball shoes with good grip
would probably be the best shoes to wear.

There are really great courts out here! Just come a few miles west to UCLA and meet me out on the stadium courts at the LA Tennis Center. There's a reason that top pros are out there playing all the time and that they hold an ATP even there.

close to one of the fires and their lawns, houses and cars are covered with ash when they wake up in the morning.

I'm down. I'm writing my congressman about this. Make those suckers pay.

Haha, I'll probably go again. But has anybody mentioned how fast those courts are?Why doesn't someone walk down the street and bang (then kick if they don't answer) on the Chinese Consulate door? They claim their economy is still chugging along with 7% annual growth - surely they can throw a bone to a 'down on its luck' former 1st world country and kick in the $$$$$$ - oops RRRRRRRRRRMB (that's a lot of RMB - aka Yuan - aka Chinese currency) - required to resurface the courts.

Hi L.A. guys! I did a google search for "Shatto Park" to find the exact address for when I come down to L.A., but my search yielded information about the Shatto Park Locos and 18th Street Gang. I hope you guys are staying safe while playing out there!
