Can someone help me decide which to use? Which does Roger Federer use? Which does Richard Gasquet use? How about James Blake? What are the pros and cons of using either grip? Please help. Thanks in advance.:)

As far as I can tell, you hold a hammer and a pistol the same way, which would be continental grip...

continental for a 1hbh??

The OP i assume is just referring to the index finger location.. whether it stays right up against the middle finger (hammer) or separates and stays a bit further away (pistol), like fed here:

Maybe I have my terms mixed up. Okay, what I called the "Hammer Grip" is referring to all of your fingers being in one group on the handle of the racket.

My "Pistol Grip" is having the index finger separate from the rest of fingers.

Oh. Yes, hammer grip is a term used for new players to describe how to find a continental grip, aka, how you hold a hammer. I personally use what you call a hammer grip, and i'm 99% sure most pros do as well. You need as much leverage as you can get on the 1HBH since you don't have a hand to guide the racquet and another hand to power the racquet like you do in a 2HBH.

Do you know what an easterhand backhand grip is?

Hammer or pistol is not a grip I ever heard of, except for explaining the continental as like holding a hammer.
