For forehand/backhand point of contact is done by VERTICAL or SLIGHTLY CLOSED racquet.
Q. How can you hit under the ball / below equator of the ball with VERTICAL or SLIGHTLY CLOSED racquet???

ARe you asking how you can hit a slice with a closed racket head face?

Keeping the racket head face vertical or slightly closed is used for hitting with topspin.
