View Full Version : WeissCANNON Explosiv, should I string 10% higher?

The manufacturer recommends that I string this 10% than my normal tension. I generally string at 60, and that feels pretty tight. I'm worried about stringing at 65, regardless of how "stretchy" the string is. Should I keep my normal tension or string higher?

You might want to check with your retailer/supplier. I think they withdrew that recommendation -- not positive, though...

I have found that stringing 10% higher with Explosiv (on a constant pull machine) resulted in a stiff string bed (as a cross string in a hybrid). Now I am stringing it without the 10% increase and the feel is comfortable.

Explosiv! is very comfortable at 65 lbs.

Very true. I tried it without 10% and it was not all that. Then i went to 66 Lbs and the whole picture changed. You should try it for sure. If you like 60, you WILL love WCE at 66.

Just curious as to the reason for the recommended 10% bump. Is this because of a big initial tension drop (like Iso Speed Classic) or another reason?

What if it were pre-stretched?

I prestretch all my string. With WCE it did not make any difference. Prestretching only removes coil memory, that is all.

I think it is because of the string coating if you ask me. WCE has that resin feel, very thick coating. Feels good but, i think, at low tension it is still too thick so it needs more stretching if you would.
As for tension loss - it actually holds tension really well if you string it 10% higher.

You think WCE has coil memory?

It should. Even though, it is very soft.

I have Explosiv crosses in one of my racquets right now tensioned at 55, which is a little high--maybe 2 lbs higher.
The odd thing is how muted this string is. I really like a pingy string and this ain't it. It sounds (and feels) like there's a dampener in my string-bed.
No thanks.
