okay im standing on the baseline and my opponent has an easy smash and he smashes it long but at me and i use my racquet to stop it hitting me. but he claims that means he won the point what do you guys think

If the overhead hit you on the fly, as in it didnt bounce before that, then yes, he won the point.

If the ball hits you (or your racquet) before it hits the ground it's your opponents point.
