I have played with Asterisk Spin in these hybrids:

(m) Asterisk Spin (x) Lux BB ALU Rough (great spin but gave me tennis elbow!)

(m) Asterisk Spin (x) Gamma Professional 16

The string has a lot feeling and spin. Its like a cross between Gamma TNT and Gamma Professional.

sounds great! i think im gonna get some. if it gives such bad tenni elbow i think i might hybrid it with kirschbaum pl2. do you have any other hybrid ideas for it?

No, Gamma Asterisk is a very playable string and shouldn't give you tennis elbow. The reason I got tennis elbow was because I put it in a hybrid with LUX BB ALU Rough (which is very stiff)!

I would recommend using Asterisk in a hybrid with MSV Hex or Technifibre Black Code. These hybrids should give you great bite on the ball and minimal risk of T.E. I'm not a string breaker, so I tend to put the softer string in the mains.

yeah lux rough took me some getting used to also. is the spin good with msv in the mains, hows the power? at the moment i think thats what ill be hybriding it with. thanks.

With X-1 in the mains and the MSV Hex in crosses, I have great control and great bite on the ball. I'm not sure a poly and multi hybrid will give you a lot of power, but definitely more power than a full poly setup!

I never use poly in the mains, so I can't really comment on how it will feel, but I would think it would be feel similar to my set-up.

I had it, and wasn't impressed by it at all. I had in a full bed, and feels very soft, since it's a multi. And I think my problem with a full bed of this string is, it lacks feedback...

murrmanfan13

do you think it would be any better in a hybrid? do you have any other multi recommendations? there are so many great poly's out there, but lately i have been feeling that there are only a few multi's worth trying...

I had limited experience w/multi strings. Your best bet to hybrid w/poly is no other than natural gut. Try it!!

ive tried gut once and broke it in one session.

do you know of any good durable guts?

The_Question

Have you tried Pacific Tough Gut?

Supracool94
08-12-2009, 08:41 AM
Natural Gut is great, but I think some multis offer a similar feel for a lot less money. They are also easier to string and more durable. You might want give these strings a try.

Gamma Professional
Gamma Professional Spin
Technifibre X-1 17
Wilson 15L Natural Gut
Babolat Tonic 15L

thanks for the recommendations

i have not tried pacific tough gut, but i will order some soon

hows the spin on gamma professional spin? a multi with spin would be right up my alley.

thanks alot

I'm sorry to say that I have only tried Gamma Professional and not the spin version. Professional is probably the synthetic that is closest to real gut.

Would professional make a durable cross string with a alu power rough hybrid

Supracool94
08-12-2009, 09:48 AM
Most of the time players don't break their cross strings, so they usually put the more playable or softer string in the crosses.

Gamma Professional is not a durable string, however if you put in the crosses with BB ALU Rough you would most likely have a nice feeling hybrid that should last a while.

gamma pro is a synthetic? if it was close so gut wouldn't it be more of a multi in the sense the multis are more similar to gut?

Supracool94
08-12-2009, 10:42 AM
Yes it is a multi, I meant the closest feeling synthetic (as in artificial, not as in synthetic gut). I should have used artificial instead of synthetic.

sorry for the mistake :(

would you compare it to top strings like x-1 as an alternative to gut.

Supracool94
08-12-2009, 11:03 AM
I would say Gamma Professional actually plays more like real gut then X-1.

o wow, how much is it?

Supracool94

$19.95 through TW or sometimes you find it a little cheaper on some of the auction sites.

do you think i should get it in the spin version? do you like it more than x-1 as a hybrid?

Supracool94

Its hard to give you a complete answer, because so far my favorite set-up in X-1 / MSV Hex. But, I have not tried a Gamma Pro/ MSV Hex set-up yet, which I will be doing soon. Then I can completely recommend one over the other.

That said, I think you should give the spin version a try! On my next order from TW, I plan on buying a set.

I played with a full bed of Gamma Asterisk Spin last night. Served with it for an hour. Very nice string...good spin and power, lots of string movement right away. I only felt a little twinge in my elbow afterwards.

I used to play with full gut, but it was too expensive. I'm going to play with ALU spin to see how it compares to the Asterisk...but I really liked how the Gamma string hit.

Those are really different strings, LUX BB Spin is a poly and Asterisk is not! The Asterisk is way softer!

Asterisk Spin is a full multi-syn gut...

I know they're different...but I've got to test out some Lux stuff because people rave about it.

If it doesn't strike me as amazing I'll probably switch to full Asterisk Spin.

I would recommend using a hybrid of Asterisk on the mains and a textured poly on the crosses like BB ALU Rough, MSV HEX, or Black Code!

I've been hitting with ALU Spin for a week now. I hated it at first, but now tolerate it. When they break I'm going back to Asterisk Spin.

Has any played the Asterisk Spin with an 18x20 pattern? I'm considering trying in my Youtek Rad.

I used the Asterisk Tour 17 as crosses in a hybrid with Lux BB Ace 18 in the mains. Tension at 50/52 lbs. This was in a i.Radical MP racquet.

This was a great combination. Perfect for power/spin/control/feel.
Everything was great with this combination.
