I went on there today to buy a song, "A white shade of Pale", and they only had various covers plus the live version, not the original album version by Procol Harum. The incredibly popular one known far and wide. What gives?

If Itunes doesn't have it, does that mean I can't easily get it onto my ipod? And if so, what kind of crazy world do we live in??

In terms of the degree of difficulty it takes getting a certain song on your Ipod, where you find it should not matter.

Try limewire.

I'm sorry, I'm confused. People buy songs?

Perhaps you might find the song if you searched for its actual title, which is, of course, 'A Whiter Shade of Pale'.

I found a ringtone for your phone but no download. Someone may need to quote me since I'm on his ignore list.

This should work:

Not at all. Just put the song in the library of iTunes and then you can use iTunes to transfer the song onto the iPod.

Thanks dancraig. I know it's difficult to believe that I would ever end up on someone's ignore list. lol.

If I was searching for it by the wrong title, I wouldn't have found 98 different versions of it, including the live version by the original artists.

Pay attention.

I'm not sure what this means... To reiterate, I am looking for the original version of the song "A whiter shade of pale" that, through the voodoo magic of modern tehnology, I can somehow get into my computer and then onto my ipod thingy. How do I do that? My only experience downloading songs from the internet is through this Itunes "store". I guess you guys are saying there are other places to buy songs?

Also, why wouldn't Itunes have it readily available for sale? It's a very popular recording. (I ended up buying the Annie Lenox version, the live version by Procol Harum, a Willie Nelson version, and a Joe Cocker version.)

CC posted a link to the song on Amazon.com. You can buy it there, put it in the media library on iTunes and then use the iTunes to put it on your iPod.

Pay attention man! (couldn't resist :D)

Thanks. Just purchased from there and allegedly downloaded onto my computer. Where it might be now, I haven't clue, but I have at least paid for it even if I can't actually locate it in my computer and listen to it.

Just bought the friggin' song again since I got frustrated looking for it. Have it now.

Meanwhile, here is a youtube version of what I bought. If this ain't the coolest vid ever, classic psychedelic era stuff, I don't know what is.

I have to say...

IF you own the CD, you can rip it into your itunes library. That will allow you to put it on your ipod...

just in case

You could of bought the 'Best of Procol Harum' cd, used, for 3 bucks from amazon. There's also 3 studio versions of 'Whiter Shade of Pale' on their 3-cd box set---the original single release, a previously unreleased stereo version, and a previously unreleased backing track version (without the vocals).

Good to know for future reference, thanks.

But wait, isn't this stealing from artists?

I do know how to do that, but don't own the CD.

Those different variations sound cool. I'll look out for that CD, thanks.

Looking at these supposed free download websites you guys mentioned, and it sure don't seem simple to get a song. What's the trick?

Now I'm trying to find "Walk away Renee" by Southside Johnny, which is a fine version of the song, and of course both Amazon and Itunes have 100 different versions of the song, and plenty of Southside Johnny songs, but not that one.

What, do these websites specialize is not selling the most obvious and best song/version of a song by an artist? ("Sorry, we don't have 'Stairway to Heaven' by Led Zeppelin, but we do have 300 other songs by Led Zeppelin, as well as 88 different versions of 'Stairway to Heaven' by other artists, so would you be interested in one of those instead...?")

ok, for torrent downloads:

1. download torrent downloader. e.g. vuze http://www.vuze.com/app
2. install etc...
3. go to torrent search site e.g. http://www.torrentz.com/
4. search for whatever you like
5. download through vuze (it will guide you)

[steps 1,2 only have to be done once]

let me know if it works for you...

Amazon DOES have a Southside Johnny cd with 'Walk Away Renee' on it---it's on "All I Want Is Everything/The Best of Southside Johnny". You can get it used for under 8 bucks.
Like you told Deuce the other day, "Pay attention".....
Oh, you just want that song for around a buck and not the whole cd? Can't help you there.

Ok. Thanks.

What makes it semi-rare? It's practically the only Southside South Side Johnny song I know, and certainly the only one I would consider buying. Plus it's a very famous song. Add that to the unavailability on itunes of one of the most popular rock recordings ever, Procul Harum's original version of "Whiter shade of pale", and it appears we have a problem of some sort...

And I mean, it's not like these things should be selling out or out-of-stock, right? "Sorry, we just sold the last one to a guy who logged on two minutes ago..."

GS

There's quite a few Best-Of cd collections from Southside Johnny (live and studio stuff), and only one I found has 'Walk Away Renee'. iTunes can't release every single song out there, just the ones that might sell and make them money. But, leaving out the original verson of 'Whiter Shade of Pale' is a mistake, of course.
Another Procol Harum mistake is leaving them out of the Rock+Roll Hall of Fame, as well as the Moody Blues, Steve Miller, and Alice Cooper. Oh, but the Hall of Shame inducted such greats as Grandmaster Flash, Diana Ross and lots of country music artists---hmmm, I didn't realize they were rockers....
I guess the Sex Pistols were right when they refused to be inducted in the Hall a few years ago. Or as Groucho Marx once said, "I refuse to be a member of a club that might have me as a member."

As mentioned, if I was looking for an obscure Southside Johnny song I would understand, but this is not an obscure song of his. One would think that among the 100 or so truly obscure Southside Johnny songs Itune or Amazon or both DO offer, they could find a place for the only one I actually know or want.

Sorry heycal I should have explained the link. If you search through the blog on the site you'll see a link saying Procol Harum – “Whiter Shade of Pale”. You basically (not sure if you're in IE or Firefox) right click and go save link as to the destination of choice.

About stealing from the artists, yes I agree that it is, but am very confused as the site I get my music from (www.hypem.com) provides links to full blogs where the songs originate from and they all have a link similar to this, whereas other sharing sites are impossible to work around and as mentioned above, torrents take days to get the hang of...
