Sorry, sophomoric scarcasism- Couldn't resist a punch line.

A combination of bad timing for a tournament, (B-18s top players) senioritis, the economy, and the distance to ALBQ. all combined means there may be less attendance- But I have been wrong before.

The points are not for National team qualifying- since those just got over, and you've some (just as big) tournaments coming up in Phoenix/El Paso/Tucson (for example- Suprise and EL Paso Sweet 16s) So it's just not worth the money right now, compared to later. Maybe folks have to start cutting back, and picking and choosing when and where to play?

the main reason nobody is going for that tournament is due to the change in level. what would be the point in traveling to new mexico for a tournament that cant improve a players ranking?

Yeah... Why else would anyone play tennis?

Today's Tucson local paper sports page called C. Bermudez the most sought after senior of this year's athletes- Above any football or baseball candidates and above any track or soft ballers.
He is quoted as knowing where he is going, but keeping it to himself- I will laugh when he stiffs Arizona- Maybe he could reach over a net and push the Pac 10 coach of the year down when he says "No thanks".

Other News-
Andrew Rieff was listed in the Tucson City Open as a Tucson resident, AND Tom Wolfe has moved from Catholic San Diego University to Arizona- Both would have to sit out a year, but the could be fishing for spots... Tom beat New Zealand #3 Patrick when they played 3 team tournament, and Rieff looked really good when NAU came down as well.

Weird, since he's a junior

Just looked it up and they were talking about D Bermudez

Sorry about wrong Bermudez mix up.
What about Rieff (long shot guess only based on "residence" listing Tucson)
and Wolfe transfer?
Arizona does not seem to have any problem letting transfers hang around waiting out the 1 year penalty.

And Bermudez does like to push people down.

Haven't heard anything about Reiff transferring. Last year he said the coach was great and he has the benefit of playing #1 - something he surely wouldn't at UA.

Reiff is still listed on the roster at NAU. It'll be interesting to see where he fits in the line-up with the acquisition of 3 foreigners.

Yes, this could turn out to be a perfect "lesson" concerning college tennis and the need for a coach to win first, to keep their jobs.

Well, I wish the Lumberjacks luck regardless. When Arizona State cancelled men's tennis, it put a serious hurt on our state's college tennis reputation. While we have both UA & Scottsdale Community College with very good teams and records, Grand Canyon (D-II) struggled mightily and NAU wasn't too far behind
