Ankle Braces

On tenniswarehouse there is only the ASO for sale. I've noticed that a lot of players wear ankle braces. What are they wearing?

Hewitt and Roddick both wear the ASO. FYI, I bought a pair a few years ago from TW and love them. Wouldn't play a match without them, and at least once, they've prevented what would have been a sprain from being anything more than a little pain that went away after a day.

McDavid, Mueller and Aircast make similar braces, but they are all around the same price range. I also use the ASO ones, and just like Arafel, I wont do any sports without them. Running, basketball, tennis, you name it. Once you get used to them you just cant leave them aside.

ASO or McDavid are the best quality. You get what yo pat for. I recomend you spend a little more buy save your ankles. I used to have A LOT of problems with my ankles, but not anymore, thanks to ASO!!!!

Is it a good idea to wear them even though you are not injured in any way? What benefits does one have wearing a brace when there is no apparent problem with the joint?

i rolled my ankle the other day and i kind of freaked out so thats why i am going to buy two braces

yes, you'll prevent a new injury. You barely notice you have them on, but when you are on a verge of rolling an ankle, you'll appreciate you have them on.

I think he uses ASO. According to TW Hewitt and Rodick use ASO.

ASO braces are good. Just as a counterpoint, I had rolled my right ankle and used an ASO for about 6 weeks after initial healing as an injury prevention. I found, however, that the muscles associated with the ankle had atrophied somewhat because they got used to the support of the brace. I stopped using the ASO because I feared further atrophy. My ankle still has tweaks, especially if I don't warm up slowly, but I feel at least the muscles are still being used. My ankle feels stronger for it. Your miles may vary.
