So, I'm trying to burn stuff as DVDs for Nero 9, and I'm having problems. The file itself is only 700/800 MB or so, yet when I go to burn it, it ends up taking 4.3 GB on the disk! What's up with that? I'm using Nero Vision to do it, so is there a problem with my software, and what could I do to fix it? Does anyone know of free software that can compress files or something, but I really don't understand why it's doing that in the first place. Is it my settings perhaps?

And btw, please don't suggest burning as a data disk because I need to be able to view it on my DVD

thanks

You're making a DVD to play on a set top DVD I presume. I believe you can add 4.3 GB of data before burning. The DVD itself will always be a "full" DVD. So add the files before the burn to fit them in. In other words 1 meg will be written to a full 4.3 GB disc size. 2.5 GB will. 4.0 GB will. Add what you want before burning.

That's because the original file is not in DVD format. (I'm guessing it's either Xvid, DivX.) Nero Vision converts it to DVD format, which takes up 4.3gig, before it burns. This is normal.

I find Ashampoo better for burning than Nero.

My files are .avi. Any way to prevent it from doing that, because I want to burn a whole season, which takes up 2-3 gigs, and I'd really like to avoid putting them on multiple DVDs if possible?
