What is the value of thermal pockets on a tennis bag? Are they all that important? I never leave my racquets in my car or any horrible stuff like that. So does this feature really add anything to racquet protection; or is it just a marketing gimmick?

It adds protection, like out on the court...

Does it really make a difference? I mean, a racquet bag sitting in the sun at 90 degrees is going to get hot, right? Does the thermal stuff really keep the racquets (and more exactly, the strings) cooler?
Sorry to sound so dense about this...but if thermal is so great, why don't all the companies that make racquet bags feature it?

really only works if you are out there for a relatively short amount of time (1-3/4 hours or so) and you keep the bag either completely zipped or keep the zippers about 1-2 inches apart, allowing for slight ventilation.
fairly good thing to have, but if you aren't in intense conditions year round, something good to have for sure.
I kept my bag in my trunk for a while in the freezing cold Chicago winter, sure my rackets were cold as a mother, but the strings still played fairly well - it just took a few minutes of hitting with the rackets to really get the temp back to neutral

Nothing to obsess about and its value is highly dependent on the bag. Racquets in my thermal Wilson Tour tournament bag are no cooler than those in my un-insulated TF VO2 Max 12-pack no matter the conditions. The same guys that worry that their legs cannot move with shoes that weigh an ounce or two more worry about thermal bags too. Just depends on which side of the fence you are on.

I have found that in wilson bags the ones that come with it our 10x better quality. My schools bag was the one with out it and it ripped in 3 weeks and than i bought the thermo one and it still is working a year and a half later. so your not just paying for the thermo your paying for the fabric and strap quality

I notice the Bablolat bags also have a thermal feature, at least some of them.

It makes a difference, but it is not a must.

+1... I love those: "My shoes are too heavy to run fast!" guys :)
Oh and same experience with with/without thermo bag stuff...

One nice example that the thermal protection really works: my Babolat Aero line bag for 12 racquets has one pocket to carry cold bottles, and I once tested it by leaving a cold gatorade bottle for 4 hours. When I took it off, it was decently cold yet. So if the protection works in one way, it also works in the other way.
I bought one with thermal protection first because it seemed a lot better produced, a lot more durable and has all types of pokcets I could want. Second, sometimes I have to leave it in the trunk of my car, and when I play under a heavy sun I like to know that they won't get hot. Also, the little thermal pocket for cold bottles is really useful when playing under the sun, since you'll get a cold drink every turn.

I toss my cold drinks in one side of the thermal bag and they stay nice and cold the whole time! :)
