For those of you who don't get their newsletter, this is what was written about the incident:

"Serena’s Selective Memory Erodes Her Credibility
Serena is without a doubt the most accomplished women’s player of the 21st century. It’s a shame that so much of her manner leaves a bad taste. It’s one thing to verbally tear into an official – but to do so at such a late stage of the match revealed just how mentally fragile Serena was versus Kim Clijsters’ consistent and intelligent barrage.

Serena’s conduct in the wake of that incident is far more reprehensible. Constantly saying she didn’t remember what she said, issuing evasive statements, declaring the desire to “move on” are all signs of a profound abdication of responsibility – precisely the opposite of the qualities we (and Serena) value most in a champion.
Note to Serena: stop insulting us. Stop offending paying customers all over the world with your indifference to smaller events. And if you do that, perhaps you’ll be less mentally-fragile when you come up against a player who can test you the way Clijsters did."

A poorly written and disjointed attack.

This is a non-sequitar, at best: "Stop offending paying customers all over the world with your indifference to smaller events. And if you do that, perhaps you’ll be less mentally-fragile when you come up against a player who can test you the way Clijsters did"

Obviously the writer has issues with her unrelated to this incident.

For the record, all of the top players have always scheduled based upon the significance of the event. What's the last "US Open Series" event not also a Masters Event that Fed or Nadal has played?

Go back to Jmac and Connors era and top players would not show up for your little tennis tourny without a healthy appearance fee.

I like that the article says "Serena is without a doubt the most accomplished women’s player of the 21st century". Notice it doesn't say she's the greatest tennis player of all time, or anything like that. Her technique is still bulky and clumsy and not exactly nice to watch, but she has accomplished a lot in terms of wins. I like how the article words this.

Nobody is doubting Serena's abilities as a tennis player but as a person she's trash. Serena is the kind of personality that we don't need on tour; she should receive a lifetime ban from playing in the WTA.

This commentator was right now, I like how he distinguishes her from being a great athlete and a dirtbag on court.

yawn, another Serena bashing thread.

why not use one of the 10,000 pre-existing threads?

That's not a meaningful statement.

Even online there has to be some thread of substance to your response otherwise you're simply exercising your fingers, in which case I can't add anything of use to that activity.

your use of the word "creepy" is creepy.Yeah, probably. I'm just depressed that some would think Serena's behavior was somehow within normal, excusable range and fabricate a rationale for her making a spectacle that was really disturbing to watch. I am more upset with society and what I believe are racially biased, black fans than Serena, who I would hope agrees to some counseling as a broken, certainly exposed person. I need to walk away for awhile and hope for some official ruling that makes sense to me and also hope that I can be objective about it.

Guys don't joke, the food industry is almost 95% supported by Serena Williams (well..her and Marion Bartoli). We can't afford a food industry buckling under a Serena Williams Diet!

I complained about the low class G___-o attitude of the williams sisters on the boards and got banned for it. You can take the girls out of Compton, but you can't take the Compton out of the girls. It's a character issue, not a race issue. Anyone can make a bad mistake. She threatened a foot fault official earlier, with a dirty look, loud screaming point, another dirty look, and got zero criticism for it, which emboldened her to go further. I've never rooted against Americans before these two. The arrogance, sheer nastiness, screeching, huge number of unforced errors, is the tip of the iceberg.

What's worse:

tennis fans who make fun of fat people

or

Serena Williams?

I would not lump Venus in with Serena. There are a lot of differences. Has Venus really behaved like Serena? Examples?

Seems like there are a lot of people who have hated Serena (yes hated!!) for a long time and couldn't wait to kick her while she's down.

That's really sad.

I have to agree with this.

I don't know how anyone with a straight face can suggest that Serena Williams is mentally fragile after as many tight moments and close matches she has won over the last 10 years on the tour.

Why is it poorly written? I think the sentence structure and word choice is fine.
