View Full Version : Personal Attacks Section?

Why not just face the inevitable and devote a section to personal attacks? That way the attacks won't corrupt the other sections. Also, there may be a need for a special "Retiring from the Board" section. The new format will take a bit of getting used to, but I'm sure we will all get accustomed to it quickly. Hopefully, this new format will not eat as many posts as the old one did. Many a time I wrote something interesting only to have it disappear into the black hole of cyberspace. Never could figure out why.

No - a section "devoted to personal attacks" will attract a certain immature type like steel to a magnet.

Bad idea.

The "Pro player talk" has traditionally been the place for personal attacks. Lets keep it that way.

Besides, what fun would the personal attacks be if they were out of context?

Sorry to be a killjoy... but the "no personal attacks" policy holds. We did add the Rants & Raves section for what its name implies. However, we will delete personal attacks, and we have much better tools for ejecting abusers. Don/Tennis Warehouse

Hey! How come the filter doesn't pick up "doofus"? I feel I've been personally attacked and I am consulting an attorney. :P Note to all doofi, I was kidding! Helloooooooo? It was a joke. Was that unclear? Did anyone actually think I was really serious? Unfortunately, I'm sure the occasional personal attack will creep into the debate. Actually, the cat fights are often the most entertaining posts. Some folks tend to take themselves way too seriously. The worst are filled with passionate intensity.

Honestly, it's a good idea, or just make personal attacks bannable. It's in the rules that you can't personally attack somebody, but in my opinion, the rule isn't enforced.

Personal attack can be a fine line.

For example, which one of these lines are a personal attack:

A. I think you are a stupid idiot for reviving this five year old thread.
B. I think it was stupid and idiotic of you to revive this five year old thread.

(This is just an example and no offense is intended.)

Can we also have a section titled "My alternative usernames." Coz I'm having trouble keeping up with davey25 and his infinite variety. :) Guy seems to have more usernames than I have posts. He uses some names exclusively for posting, and others exclusively for voting in polls.

There's a thought. The Section for Those with Multiple User Names.

I used to think the Rants and Raves Section was strangely (and wildly) left wing. Then it finally dawned on me that certain regular posters had MANY user names (not two names, but something like eight+) and regularly posted under those various names within a given thread often concurring with his/their previous posts and ganging up on those who disagreed with him/them. After that realization, the R&R Section's seeming insanity made much more sense.

How absolutely batshoot crazy would one have to be do that? Kind of sad really.

Newflash: The Rants and Raves Section isn't on the up and up.

A) Clearly a personal attack. (You're a mean person.)
B) Marginal personal attack. Much more subtle. (How mean of you.)

Posting under multiple usernames is called 'LarryHalling' - named after the originator of the practice on these boards.

As older members will recall, Larry was quite... special.

I too find it hard to believe we have so many ultra leftists on a tennis board. It seems more like what you would expect on a Pravda forum.
So who is it that uses so many ID's?

I find it odd that we have so many right wing users on a tennis board. Isn't tennis a sport for enlightened and thoughtful folks? But judging by the vast number of righties you'd think this was a NASCAR site.

I have never sat down to try and determine which sport has more of one parties representation in it, but I imagine there could be a certain demographic that follows tennis. I'd say half of the people I know who play tennis are Democrats, but none are as ultra liberal as some of our fellow posters. Even the most liberal person I know would think some here were just trolls making absurd comments to get a rise out of other posters. In the alternative it could be that we have a decent amount of international posters who might come from socialistic forms of government, and therefore genuinely feel America is wrong much of the time.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph! Who revived this ancient thread? I was shocked to see that this post had re-emerged.

I wrote started this thread 5+ years ago. I was actually kidding about having a personal attacks section but some people seemed to take my suggestion seriously which I found humorous.

I still check out this section every now and then. Generally, it is the same few guys continuously (and futilely) jousting about matters political. Gets pretty old after a while. But, still good for laughs occasionally.

Or, it might just be that you just don't happen to know too many liberal folks. I mean, South Florida is not exactly New York (or worse, Massachusetts if Glenn Beck is to be believed.) :)

Yup. I can't think of any poster here (at least among us Americans) who is more liberal, or even as liberal, than many of the real-life leftists I know in my neck of the woods, which is New York.

Rest assured S Florida is full of Democrats. There are tons of New Yorkers and other liberal north easterners down here. Go to any local sports teams game against a team from the north east, and you will be in the minority. From Key West to Palm Beach, there is a large Democratic majority. While the state tends to be conservative as a whole, the tri-county area which makes up S Florida is very liberal. The exception would be the Cubans in Miami, but most everywhere else, the majority are Democrats.
