Could a moderator (if one ever passesthruh this thread which I strongly doubt will happen) please change the title to NTRP to LTA ratings junior and adult

I'm a brittish and have always wondered what the translation, if you will, from the NTRP to the LTA ratings . I decided to post this in the junior section so I can include the lta 10.2/10.2 ratings which are junior only ratings although I feel that it may get more replies in the adult tourn section. Please post either your oppionion on this or facts about what the conversion is.

I'll fill this in as I get a clearer idea of the convesions

From what I have fund and read the lines seam to get blured further down

LTA---NTRP

1.1---7.0

1.2---7.0/stronger 6.5

2.1---6.5

2.2---weaker 6.5/ stronger 6.0

3.1---6.0

3.2---weaker 6.0/ stronger 5.5

4.1--- 5.5

4.2---weaker 5.5/ stronger 5.0

5.1---5.0

5.2---weaker 5.0/ stronger 4.5

6.1---4.5

6.2---weaker 4.5/ stronger 4.0

7.1---4.0

7.2---weaker 4.0/ stronger 3.5

8.1---3.0/3.5

8.2---3.0/3.5

9.1---3.0/3.5

9.2---3.0/3.5

10.1--?

10.2--?

I have search for thread about this but could not find one unfortuantly. Please post a link to one if I have missed it.

I've played matches and leagues extensively in both countries and have found that very high up and very low down you can't really equate the ratings.

Standard wise I think the following are true:

4.1 - Strong 5.0
4.2 - 5.0
5.1 - Weak 5.0 (assuming rating has been earned and not given) / v. strong 4.5
5.2 - solid 4.5 (assuming rating has been earned and not given)
6.1 - Weakish 4.5
6.2 - 4.5 / strong 4.0
7.1 / 7.2 (if earned in singles tournament play) 4.0

This is for tournament ready singles players in both countries. For a number of reasons there are exceptions in both countries. As a Brit it is useful to you know that US ratings aren't half as important at the high levels and I don't believe US juniors have them at all. However, at an average club level the ratings in the US are far more important that in the UK because they dictate your level of league participation.

This chart is the actual ITF one (albeit from 2005).

Theres no way to convert it. Im 8.2 but from reading the descriptions of NTRP there is no way im 3.0. LTA ratings can create the appearance of someone being good just because they play alot of tournaments. The lower rated players cant get in many tournaments to get their ratings up. Its just a vicious circle... I plan mens division 1 doubles so i would home im higher than 5.0 :/ I just way prefer doubles than singles..

I know nothing about LTA aside from the conversion charts, but you said you're an 8.2. With 1.1 being the best and 10 being the worst, are you suggesting that 10 - 8.2 goes ranges 2.0 to 5.0+, and then 8.2 - 1.1 goes from 5.0+ to 7.0? That doesn't make any sense, because in NTRP most players fall within the under 5.0 range (probably 95%+ of tennis players). The rating systems are most valuable and should have the wider range among lower level players because the rankings speak for themselves at higher levels.

No, im saying that the LTA rating system is absolutely awful and is meaningless.

True, and this shouldnt apply to JUNIORS
since the LTA system needs 7 WINS to boost up a rating for juniors whereas adults only need 2 <- BIIIIG difference
