Were NE of the Pump shoes from the past good or did they just suck?

P.S. I am only asking for the ones you know.

i don't know if they really worked, but they were fun to play with...fyi the last time i wore reebok pumps was in middle skool, i had the ones that chang wore, and a pair of basketball (high top) ones. i liked them, and thought they were comfortable.

Wow! I had a pair in 8th grade, the yellow and lime ones worn by Chang in 1990. They were a little lighter than normal shoes because of the Hexalite material. They died a death worthy of a fad sometime in the early 90's. Not only were they ugly, the pump put air in the tongue, nowhere else. It was annoying. Imagine a blood pressure cuff on your foot! You might as well have just tied your shoes tighter. Another thing: Air didn't stay in them more than an hour on the court.

I remember Nike and Reebok were in an "arms race" to get the pump technology onto the market. Nike made a bball shoe that would pump up around the ankles, which seems like a great idea. They didn't release very many and they required a Co2-type cartridge to pump up the shoe. Reebok came along with the ball pump on the tongue and Nike dropped out. LOL on that BP cuff remark, Brain. Really no benefit.

i had some new school pump running shoes, realeased in 02', they were sweet in a really ugly futuristic way....... then the air chamber thing popped, still sweet tho

Kevin, those Nike basketball shoes that pumped were SWEET! Actually they were then, but looking back, they look pretty stupid. David Robinson wore those. I never got why Reebok first had the self-contained pumping, and then they made you buy little gas cartridges to pump your shoes. This seemed stupid to me, it got too complicated. If they would have kept the original technology, I think it would have done better, because it was simpler to just use the tongue to pump, which was pretty cool. My friend got some of the cross training Reebok pumps when they first came out(got the free t-shirt and everything), the shoes were white with blue and black. After awhile his dog chewed up the tongue, so we got a view of the pump technology inside and out!

A buddy of mine said he saw Reebok showing the pumps at a shoe deal in Vegas. A lot of the original "old school" ones.

reebok pumps are indeed available in basketball, tennis, and running models (no cartridges required).

basketball: reebok pump omni lite (hi-top)

running: reebok pump fury (slip-ons)

tennis: reebok pump court victory (m.chang)

the chang's were released in europe previously, and there will be 3 colorways available in the u.s. this year at your local "high-end" sneaker store (not footlocker). the chang's are the ones with the tennis ball tongue-pump.

Own three pr. Reebok pumps, they get really hot when inflated, no ventilation. Fit is great though.
