Just for fun.

Gonzo did reach No.5 at one point.

Gonzalez got hot and made the AO final, something Davy's never done, which is why a lot will take him.

But Davy has been the far more consistent player throughout his career, his 3 MS titles to Gonzo's 0 MS finals make up for it in this comparison.

Do not rate Gonzo ahead of Davy just b/c of the GS final, it's like saying Rusedski had a greater career than Henman b/c he made a GS final whereas Henman did not. Henman had the longer and more consistent career, and more successful career than Rusedski. The same rule applies here.

Gonzalez hasn't won anything. To compare him to Davydenk makes me giggle.

What? Only 5 votes. No one cares about these two?

I think so, too. It's like Corretja vs Costa.

No contest - results wise it's Davy.

PS I still think that Gonzo's best > Davy's best.

I'm sorry getting beat 7-6, 6-4, 6-4 is not almost..

Davy. More consistent and has done a lot more. 3 master series and is on his 5th straight top 10 year right now...after 4 straight top 5 years.

Lmao. Had it went 5 sets I'd agree. Fernando got straight setted just like everyone else fed played that AO

Did you see Davydenko against Nadal in Miami last year?
Gonzo's best < Davy's best.

Have you seen AO 2007 Gonzo's smackdown of Nadal? Same thing.

Davy, I can't even see the argument. The only thing Gonzo has over him is a one win against Roger.

Davydenko, one slam final cam't compensate for all the other things Kolja has going for him in this comparison.

Not when you compare it to 3 MS titles. I'm sure Gonzo would love to trade his win against Roger with 1 MS title.

Davydenko by far. Anyone who votes for Gonzo is a fool.

The one thing you could argue Gonzo has over Davydenko more legitimately is 1 slam final. However 1 slam final does not make up for 3 Masters titles, all those slam semis, all those year ended in the top 5 (Gonzo hasnt even spent one week there), more titles. That plus the Olympic singles medals, but lets face it the Olympics in tennis is not that big a deal, he didnt win the singles gold which might be a bigger deal if he had, and his silver in Beijing was achieved through some blatant cheating which denied Blake his rightful spot in the final.

If Gonzo would've had Davy's consistency he would've done a lot better.

Actually the difference is 2008 Nadal is much tougher on hard courts than 2007 Nadal. Gonzalez has lost easily each time he has played prime Nadal on hard courts, and cant even touch him in his current injury impaired state. Davydenko on the other hand has beaten Nadal 3 times on hard courts ever since he entered his hard court prime.

Gonzalez's best ever chance for a Masters title was Madrid 2005 and he played arguably the match of his life and still lost from 6-3, 2-0 up vs Ivan Ljubicic. He probably would have beaten Nadal in the final that year. So much for Gonzo's best being unbeatable to many people or better than Davydenko's though, one of his best matches ever wasnt even enough to beat Ljubicic.
