View Full Version : Vibration Dampener: Rubber Band?

04-11-2004, 07:35 AM
I posted this in the tips section as well, but I thought I'd try here since this seems like the appropriate forum for ths question.

I've seen Roddick use it, and people around me use it but I've never really tried or paid to much attention to it. (Using a rubber band as a vibration dampener, shock absorber/dampener, etc.)

Currently I use a Head vibration dampener, and I was thinking about how much more cost effect it would be to use a rubber band. What are the differences in an actual brand dampener and a rubber band, and the pros and con? Also, what kind of rubber band, like thickness and length should be used. Oh, and how should you tie it for it to be used effectively?

Thanks for any help.

(Note: I did go here.. http://www.************.com/dynamic/home/learn/article.cfm?ID=28&NAME=Tie%20Rubber%20Band%20Knot& PAGE=Rookies%20%26%20Pros&DIRECTORY=rookies&AUTHOR =Andre%20Agassi%20and%20Andy%20Roddick, but the pictures were too small for me to tell what was going on, and I still didn't get the jist of it.[/url]

kickserve, from the website you posted it looks that all they do is take a rubber band place it on top of the 2 central vertical strings (below the first horizontal string). Then, they take both ends of the rubber band and take it to the other side of the racket, next they take both ends of the rubber band and return them to the other side, the side you where you started ( however this time taking the right end of the band and going beside the left vertical string, the the left end of the rubber band going beside the right vertical string), once you have the ends back to the side where you started tie a knot, either once like Agassi or twice like Roddick. Hope this helps

just tie the rubber band around the 2 main vertical string and tie the rubber band like you were tying a shoe.

works for me
never falls off

that cross knot... it unties.. I like to wrap the 1st horizontal between the 2 middle vertical... does it matter how its tied, or is the point getting it to stay... When I wanted it off... on the courts, no scissors, used a pencil, it broke, last resort: good ole teeth :)

miguelcoletta, you were asking about the raquet on the website... if you notice the color of the rubber band the the guy's hands tying the knot, they are BLUE. The people who did the site probably messed with the colors to make the knot and hands stand out a little more. It does make the racquet a pretty cool shade of yellow!

If you tie it above the bottom cross, you won't be legal.

Go to the Pros' Racquets and Gear section in a thread called what kind of paintjob is that???!! and look at Andre's rubber band.
