Found this "new perspective" video offhand of Federer practicing with someone beside him. Like someone said in YouTube, it is amazing how relaxed Federer looks compared to the guy next to him!

It is a remarkable difference, especially at that level to be so evident.

His FH is a thing of beauty.

probably because he has been doing it most of his life and he's the best at doing it.

It's amazing what kind of pace Federer generates completely effortlessly.

I agree, that imo is one of the most admirable things about his game. It looks as if its no effort at all.

It is important to distinguish between different practice sessions for Federer. During tournaments, his practice sessions are light and relaxed to minimize fatigue and risk of injury. But during the off season, or for weeks in between tournaments during the season when he heads off to Dubai, that's when Federer practices like a monster. See Jesse Levine's article on Federer lining up top juniors and going through them one by one.

He's so good because he's relaxed, and he's relaxed because he's so good.

he generates pace with smooth motion and not sharp/fast ones and thats the way hes been taught how to play and been playing for the last 7 years so its not too surprising.

Such a beautiful forehand..

he is like walking on a street, he is that relaxed.

The effortlessness the forehand is a thing of beauty. Could you imagine being able to generate that pace, that spin and that control at all, never mind doing it whilst looking like that?!!!

He looks just a little bit cocky. But i still love his fluidness so much.

So "arrogant" of him to "show off" beside that guy.

Wow, it never ends.

Basel starts in 1 week. Why would it not be ready?

because I know, lol. I live here and can tell you it's not like they set the main stands up just so the pro's can train in the empty stadium.

In the other guy's defense, he's hitting the ball harder, whereas Federer is being very sloppy here. Also, the 2 hander never looks that great (though Agassi always looked relaxed firing his 2 hander in practice!)

Anyways, reminds me a great deal of Sampras at practice. Very casual and loose.

I was wondering the same thing,

Can's they afford to give him a court in the Federer Arena Stadium in Basel?

Even Fed's 2 hand backhand looks smoother than almost everyone else's.

The link from the vid says it was posted in May 2009, so it has to be from Basel 2008.

Does anyone have the practice video of Federer where he is doing some intense workouts...It was posted a while back but can't find it anymore...

He looks just a little bit cocky. But i still love his fluidness so much.

You know, I love Nadal best, but watching Federer IS a great pleasure! He's the master, say what you will, and he's earned every bit of applause received. The way he flips a ball off a backhand...that's my favorite shot of his. I just don't think I've seen anyone hit it quite that same way.

I'm not sure how he's being cocky. Looks like he's just trying to up the heart beat a bit and warm up

Awesome article. Just goes to show how much hard HARD work goes on behind that fluid game. I guess, if u have to practice in the sweltering heat of Dubai, you BETTER have a fluid/effortless game or u're not gonna last long there.
