View Full Version : Hand Eye Coordination for Very Young Kids

Aside from he typical catching the ball, catching the ball on the racquet and short feed drills, is there any good hand eye coordination drills that any of you other teaching pros use when teaching very young children first getting into the game. I have done some research, but have only found the basic ones, and I was just wondering if there are any drills/games that I am overlooking that work effectively. Any advice would greatly be appreciated, thanks.

Lots and lots of ball catching -- out of the air and bounced balls. Try balls tosses of different heights with various spin types and spin rates when having them catch balls off a bounce. If they have a lot of trouble catching a ball at all, try something like the velcro Pitch-N-Catch:
Stick 'Em Catch Ball Game (http://www.cactusbuddy.com/Stick-Em-Catch-Ball-Game/M/B000QD3GCU.htm?traffic_src=FIND&utm_medium=organic&utm_source=FIND&affId=the005-20)
Also try the junior size PracticeHit (http://www.practicehit.com/kids_tennis_training_kids_baseball_training.htm) product. Have the kids start from various distances from the PracticeHit and move to the ball to hit it. They should walk or run to get into an optimum position to hit the stationary ball. It would be best if they position themselves so that they are either in a suitable neutral stance or a semi-open stance (they should avoid significantly closed stances or extremely open stances).
