According to this, he might still have the urge to play. If he does confirm returning, then I'll make a petition for the ATP to create an award in his name, possibly for longetivity (he spent 20 years playing tennis, you know.)

And on the subject of Santoro, does anyone have a video of his match highlights and "retirement" celebration?

They should def let him play. He is in skill what agassi was in gloss. Always a pleasure to watch. Even when he loses its a great show, players have to hit shots to beat him.

Wow. It's amazing that he's hovered around the top 50 for close to 20 years now. I don't have video of his retirement, but here is a video of him winning the French Open juniors 21 years ago, beating Jared Palmer in the final:

"Already the holder of the record for the most Grand Slam events played in the open era (1968-2009) with 69, if he enters the 2010 Australian Open he will have played a Grand Slam in four different decades"

Huuuuh!!??

True. I think he played his first in 1989-and last in 2010, that WOULD make it 4 decades

4 decades sounds amazing but not to be forgotten it was the last year of one decade and the first of another (if he plays 2010)
Im sure he wants that record.

he may be the longest grand slam playing professional, but he's never been in any tennis video games, sucks

4 decades. WOW. 40 years on the ATP tour. He likely is the first in history to be collecting an old age pension and playing at the same time.

I KNOW you already know it, but it is pretty obvious that he did not play for 40 years, being 36 years old himself ;)

His career elapsed 4 different decades, that only if he decides to play the 2010 AO ;)

Wow, he should definitely play it. 70 grand slam events over four different decades, that's incredible!

Santoro should play. Playing in grand slam tournaments in 4 different decades would be some achievement.

He's the Michael Jordan of tennis.... Retire. Come back. Retire. Come back again.

Seriously, I thought he was supposed to have retired at the end of 2008.

I still think he should get into coaching-maybe open his own academy, like that Boliteri guy...

Fabrice Favre?

Unlike Farve, Santoro is almost universally liked among the tennis community. How can you not love his shenanigans?

His rating would be OVER 9000

IMHO it's a pointless achievement playing in 4 different decades...
He should enjoy his new life, skiing in December and time with his lovely family... He's given us more than enough enjoyment from his tennis...

He should play. He might win it. That would then be pretty amazing... first grand slam title after 70 attempts. :)

Safin should come back in 2010

He does have the tendency to win a slam every 5 years or so

Safin-Santoro Australian Open final

Who wouldn't love it?
