..more side on, not just shoulders, but more the hip as well..? seems like it... Sometimes control and pace suffers as i stand more "open" with my classical strokes, but way better if i kind of exaggerate turning my body end hip.. Any opinions?

Classic conti forehands have you turning your back slightly to the target, one handed takeback, CLOSED stance, and the ball hit very late compared to today's SW forehands. Later the better, like right nipple for a rightie for topspin, wrists laid back.
Racket pointed at the sky straight up at prep, allowing the loose wrists to roll into the shot. Look up AdrianoPanatta for a perfect example.

Thanks Panattas strokes look a lot like mine, but i am not as continental as him, more eastern, still quite late right? Watching tennis today has made me confused and make me hit too far in front...
