I went to the Audi dealership last month, so I guess I have met Murray.

I am gonna go to the US open next year so I hope I meet or see Federer, Nadal, or Djokovic.

I shook Fabrice Santoro's hand at Wimbledon this year.
Also saw Federer center court, along with Cilic, Querrey, Sharapova and Dulko. I also saw Gonzales, Djokovic, Tsonga, Azeranka, Murray, Fish, Vemic, Ivanovic, Melzer, along with numerous doubles players.
I guess I have only met Santoro but I did talk to Gicquel at Wimbledon too.

Most famous player I've ever met was Roddick. I've spoken to a lot of challenger and 50-100 caliber players, though.

Safin, Roddick, Courier. I got my picture with all three as well. Safin and Courier were great. Patient and really cool. Roddick seemed really annoyed that we made him stop. Not that I blame him. I could see it getting old really quick. So at least he stopped.

I have been at NBA games where a player that kids are going nuts over will just say "I ain't signing sh!# right now." Not naming names.....Stephon Marbury.

Tennis athletes are, by far, more down to earth people.

I've seen from very close Baghdatis and Bennetau but didn't get to talk to either. So dunno it that counts as meeting.

Rod Laver, Illie Nastase, Guillermo Vilas, James Blake

I got their autographs, took pictures and had mine taken with them and chatted with them for at least a few minuites. James and Guillermo were both just as nice as can be. Nastase couldn't have cared less, he just showed up for the quick cash. In the case of Laver, I was 14 y/o so there was more drooling over him than chatting.

melanie oudin, jill claybas, mary joe fernandez, Gisela Dulko(pretty hot in person) at the fed cup 2009 surprise, az.

Jimmy Areas and mats wilander 2009.

I met Vijay Amritraj at Stratton Mountain, VT at a tourney many years ago and he was one of the nicest guys that you would ever meet. That same night I bumped in to Flach & Seguso at a bar and they were hammered - they actually bought a round for my table. Had to play in the semi's the next day but that didn't stop them from having a few beverages.

Good thread!
When I was younger I ballboyed in Toronto,Andre decided to come to the ballperson's tent and wanted to join in on the baseball game we were having during our down time.I got to pitch while he pelted easy 100m balls to the 50 kids who would fight to be the one who catches it.

Been on court with all the great legends,Mac,Lendl,Pistol,Andre,Graf,Monica,Becker, Edberg SABATINI (my God)those soaked shirts were very distracting.Had Chang tell me slow down cause I was making him look bad.15,000 people laughing at me.Nastase calling me the little motorcycle.Mac asking me where to serve.Good Times.

I worked security at a Virginia Slims Legend event a few years ago. Navratilova made a wise crack at me, I took Zina Garrison to the pro shop when she forgot her clothes, I escorted Virginia Wade through the club and talked to her as we went through the club, and commented about Tracy Austin's strokes and she turned around and show us her stroke motion. As for Evert, she had her entourage and you couldn't get to her unless you wanted to risk your life. As for the rest of the players, had contact with them but had no memorable moments.

I don't get the criteria, so I'll break it up.

Signatures: Kuerten, Safin, Nadal, Ljubicic, and Baghdatis.

Photos: Safin

Talked to for more than 30 seconds: Todd Martin, Jose Higueras (when he coached Tursunov). Capriati's father.

Been close to many people in a leisurely setting. Some are Brad Gilbert, Matheiu Montcourt, Gael Monfils, Spadea, Malisse, Mischa Zverev's father, Gambill's father, and I'm sure many more I can't recall.

I wouldn't claim to know any of these people.

Martina Hingis, Monica Seles, Venus, Serena, Ana Kournikova, Conchita Martinez, Steffi Graf, Gaby Sabatini, all of them at San Diego, I think since last year the tournament is not longer hier. Ah, and I attended a clinic with Raúl Ramirez, a mexican player from the 70's that his highest ranking was 4th.

Yeah, I feel the same way about my Babe Ruth bat and the Ted Williams ball. Maybe I can buy a tee and make some use of them. In reality, there was a supposed authentic Mickey Mantle ball I was supposed to get in a will. Apparently, the husband of the woman never turned in the will, and kept the ball, along with all her other valuables. Considering the source of the ball, it was probably fake.

Was walking past Safin as he walked by, called his name and he stopped, turned, and winked at me.

Held a conversation with Jankovic. She was very nice and personable.

Waved at Davydenko as he was going to the players lounge. Thought he didn't wave back and was going to get mad, but my entourage pointed at him to let me see. He actually stopped on the landing, smiled, and waved back.

Got close to Serena as she was signing autographs, but the crowd was too intense and she looked pretty scared, so we backed off.

Tried to get an autograph for my son from Sania Mirza, but she and her doubles partner were walking too fast and didn't appear to be in the mood for signing. My son just wanted a pro's autograph. Any pro, he didn't even know Mirza.

Not exactly players, but they're pretty close (in proximity) to players. Umpires.

Jerry Armstrong-was very nice and friendly.

Carlos Bernardes-He was very talkative and friendly. He actually stopped and held a conversation.

federer a couple of times in basel, when he was still watching the football matches in "normal" stands without too much attention (around 2001-2003).
once at the facilities where federer used to train when he was in switzerland, he was two fields next to me with chuidinelli. I guess we didn't really concentrate, rather watched him play ;)

and well, at the swiss indoors it happens to meet some of the players just "somewhere" around, maybe even on the toilet :D but you can't call this meet...

Title says it all, What are some professional players that you have met.

I met and SPOKE (Yes of course i am proud) Federer and his Swedish coach Peter Lundgren in Stockholm Open in 1999 where Fed qualified, he was really nice and down to earth, very mature despite only being 18 (i was 19 atthe time) and a really funny guy.

Ive met Wilander Edberg Laver Rosewall Panatta Borg Nastase Santana Stan Smith and Robin Soderling (i played with Soderling for 20 minutes when he was 14 and i was 18 in Bastad in 1998 (he was a little spoiled brat at the time)

Stefan Edberg, Magnus Gustafsson, Michael Russel, Magnus Larsson and countless lower ranked players on future events and practice courts.

The biggest pro i "hang out" with was Andrew Ilie down in Melbourne 2002. I even practiced a session with him. He was such a friendly guy. So down to earth. It was too bad he ended his career so early :(

In 2003, my wife, 3 yr. old daughter, and I were coincidentally at the Long Beach, CA Marriott Hotel when we all walked by Martina Navratilova in the valet parking area. She was there for the Home Depot tournament in Carson, California. She had her little white dog with her. Martina was very solicitous towards my daughter. She barely acknowledged me and my wife, which was okay with me. I can still remember how "cut" her arms and legs were.

Well, met personally not, but i have a picture with Ivan Lubijic., patty Schnyder and Shahar Peer. By the way, Ivan and Patty very nice people. Shahar not so much, after we asked for the picture i regreted asking her because of her attitude even though she agreed to give us the pic. I have seen almost all the big pros very very close when they come to South Fla. to the Sony Ericson.

Your signature line? Not so nice of you if you are making fun of somebody. If it is the case that person might be not a native English speaker maybe which is not a sin.

Oh man, I was wondering whether I would ever have to explain my signature. I guess I have to do it now.

My signature consists of actual quotes from President George W. Bush, a native English speaker who was accepted to Yale University and Harvard Business School. Sorry you didn't get the joke, son.

As a son of immigrants to America, I would never say that being a non-native English speaker was a sin, son.

Took photo with Anabel Garrigues

Spoke for around 15 minutes to Carl Maes

Was coached by Andy Murray's junior coach for about 6 months

Took close up photo and had a brief chat with 2009 mixed doubles champ Carly Gullickson

Started chatting to Baghdatis' mom on the train after he beat Gulbis at Wimbledon 2 03 3 years back.

I once shook hands with former French player Arnaus Boetsch and wished him good luck in a tournament. He was suprised I recognised him at all :p

I also met Michael Stich in a train and said he had a perfect one handed backhand and very smooth nice serve - and wished him good luck in an upcoming old boys Tourney.

I've touched and held Stefan Edbergs Wilson racquet with the leather grip on as he practiced for an event. Talked to him shortly, and told him I was a huge fan and loved his one handed backhand and his first volleys. He smiled and said "Thanks, much abliged"

If that's meeting a pro, then I've met some pros - but don't know any pros personally.

Pat Rafter but have spent more time with his brothers and one sister - all really nice people. From back in the day - Mark Kratzmann, John Frawley (complimented me on my backhand and sat down to watch my whole match - that was unnerving), and Simon Youl. Oh - and Neil Borwick when I was younger. He beat Becker once on grass at Queens I think, then we never heard about him again.

Nicolas Escudé framed a ball on a practice court that hit my wife on the ankle. He jumped the fence and came over to see if she was alright. Nice guy.

I played in the first division of comp. tennis in Belgium 2 years ago because our club couldn't afford a pro team

I played (and met offcourse) against Lars Burgsmuller and Christopher Kas. I doubled against Alexander Flock. And I played in the same team with Jasper Smit, Melvyn Op der Heijde, Melle Van Gemerden and a couple of other not so famous pro players.

In all those years that my club played in the first division I met a lot of pro players: Olivier Rochus, Christophe Rochus, Kristof Vliegen, Marc Gicquel, Alexander Waske,...

I didn't really talk to him but at Indian Wells this year, my family friend took me, and I was just walking to a match when my friend told me to look to my left and walking not one foot from me was Gasuqet. hehe, funny question. in fact, she kinda does. but she always had a little bit the looks of a teenie although she's already 30.
the other thing is, that on a tennis court she does not look very small, but 168 isn't exactly what you call tall, so I was rather surprised when I saw her "live" for the first time.

Funny Story. i Walked into the Player's dining room by accident at this ATP tournament. The girls at the door didn't stop me at all. I was wearing the Stanford tennis T-shirt and they probably thought i was one of the Players. They had much better food than outside, i will tell you.

I met Ivo Karlovic-- has speech impedement so didn't say much but EXTREMELY NICE,

Kevin Kim--he laughed at me when he saw the Stanford tennis T-shirt on me. must have been Jealous since he went to UCLA,, lol.

Also i met up with Donald young and his parents -- Very polite but bit cautious.

Saw James Blake and him Mom -- didn't talk to James since he was on his way out. but did talk and said hello to his mom. Very polite and well-mannered lady. Blake's coach was a bit cautious however, not sure why. Maybe he thought i was playing James later in the night match......lol

I did something similar at the DFS wimby warm-up event a few years back (although I had a pass rather than a t-shirt) and ended up having lunch with Jelena Dokic whilst watching Serbia in the Euro's on TV. The players buffet was exceptional!

As for Sharapova she was a bit cold when I met her, although she didn't turn me down when I asked her out for dinner - Yuri did that before she had the chance to say yes (because obviously she was going to :) )

Oh and as for Robredo not hitting big - he'd knock you, me and everybody else round here off court in a heartbeat.

@Fedace

Never got the chance to ask jelena out - she was too engrossed in the football! As for Maria, again never got to find out - Yuri was not a happy bunny, dinner during wimby wasn't part of the plan it seems.

I am alum but never played on the varsity team. I was never that good. Decent player but you have to be world class Junior even to have a chance to be on the team...:)

I had conversation with Gasquet in 2007 after his practice session - my impression of him is that he's well mannered and a very nice guy as he responded nicely to my questions and with a sheepish smile.

Others:
Serena/Roddick - they stopped to sign autograph after their practice sessions but I was not able to talk to them.....Venus though did not even care to stop.....

Justin Gimelstob - while he was commentating DC match between USA & France in Winston Salem, NC, he happened to pass by the section where we were seated and was nice enough to stop for a picture.

Also I saw some Football pros: David Beckham, Sergio Ramos, Iker Casillas, Fabio Cannavarro and briefly saw Van Nistelrooy in his Audi.....

I shook hands with Monica Seles and Martina Nav when they were in Houston for an exhibition. I was just about to start a conversation with Nav when some drunk woman interrupted us.
