so does anyone think the czechs have a chance?....nobody thought spain did last year at argentina and without rafa, but they won....rafa and verdasco appear fried while the czechs were realaxing then training on clay.....rafa will get berdych on day one, he has caused rafa some trouble on hard, but not clay...stepanek will try to attack verdasco, would think verdasco could handle it, ferrer is available, doubles a crap shoot..rafa and verdasco need this for confidence after a tough yec...assume the court is everything rafa wanted and the crowd will be big for spain

Is the lineup set yet? I would assume Nadal is a lock for singles, and the pairing of Lopez/Verdasco is a lock for doubles, but how about the last singles players? Verdasco? or would they try not to over play Verdasco, and give the other singles to Ferrer or Robredo (Does he even play Davis Cup?)?

Obvoisly Czechs are to only win the doubles.

Yes, they have a chance. Both Rafa and Verdasco aren't playing that great, having gone 0-3 at the WTF, and thus are also not in great clay-court form, having been practicing more indoors...

they're still the favorites, but the Czechs have got to go in thinking they've got a shot.

Looks like Spain is gonna win. But if Czechs win doubles and if Berdych can win a couple then maybe....

Don't count out Stepanek either... he's got some game as well, though perhaps not as well-suited to clay.

Either him or Berdych might score some surprise singles wins.

not sure about that. Nadal is tired and it is perfect chance for Berdy to exact revenge on Nadal...

But that left arm of his - even from this shot - doesn't look too flabby.

Put him in sleveless and he looks almost the same as before:

This is Nadal, presumably off roids, returning after injury in Montreal:

Or in USO,with the weight loss, but with sleeves:

I wouldn't be surprised if either Berdych or Stephanek can score a win against Rafa.

Why have all of Spain's matches been in Spain?

Because the previous times they'd played against all those teams, they'd been away matches.

The way it works is that the first time two countries play in Davis Cup, the home team is decided randomly. After that, they alternate.

This year, Spain got to the finals beating Serbia, Germany, and Israel, and now face the Czech Republic. The last time Spain had played Germany was in 2008, in Germany. The last time Spain had played the Czech Republic was in 2004, in the Czech Republic. The last time Spain had played Israel was in 1996, in Israel. The last time Spain had played Serbia was in 1989 (well, they were still Yugoslavia then..., and it was played in Yugoslavia. The Davis Cup records do count that, though.)

Stepanek is a pretty good clay court player. He beat roger Federer last year on clay and we all know Berdych can play on clay. so this tie is a toss up.

I think Rafa will wear yellow shoes for this. I hope that's not a serious injury.:|

How so? if that wasn't the case, it would allow one team to play another repeatedly on their home surface, which wouldn't be fair.

Czech wins by taking out Verdasco in the singles rubbers and winning the doubles. No chance of beating Nadal unless Berdych manages to hit 100 mph groundstrokes in every time.

thomas berdych and radek stepanek can do alot of damage
look at nadal and verdasco. their clearly fatique from all the matches they played through out the whole year
doesn't seem like they'll be in prime condition to handle best of 5 against
berdych and stepanek who've been relaxing and practicing

looks clearly that czech holds the upper hand idk about doubles
