I know only two people who got bumped down.

One was one of my singles players. She started at 3.5 perhaps 5 years ago. Had two losing seasons and was bumped down to 3.0. Played one season at 3.0 and was bumped up. Played singles for my team for two years, going 1-6 over two seasons. Now she's 3.0 again.

The other was a 4.0 guy on my mixed team who was bumped down to 3.5.

I know of only one amazing result where one of my strongest 3.0 players on my 6.5 combo team didn't move to 3.5 when everyone expected her to. She played and won matches at Districts. I would happily partner with her any day at 3.5. Go figure.

The singles player in reference only played 2 matches and got beaten soundly by a 3.0 and an average 3.5. The 4.0 had gotten bumped a full point a couple years ago, and is now at the level he should have been put at, and had tried to appeal to many times- I'm sure he is pretty happy to go down finally.
The majority of bump downs make perfect sense if you look at their records. A lot of them are mixed exclusive players who were playing down, i.e. a 5.0 playing 9.0. And that happens every year.
However, there is one 4.0 in our league who went down to 3.5, with a record of 6-3 in adult and seniors. That one I still can't figure out.

I was told by my friend that he lost all Will to live and needed Zoloft from his doc...

No joke, one time I did find a couple of cars running in the tennis court parking lot. I thought they were trying to kill themselves by Carbon Monoxide poisoning because they were sitting in the car during the 4 hours we played tennis.

Come to find out that they both worked all night, were trying to come out in the morning for pickup games, and just fell asleep in their cars.

After going 0-9 without a single set win in 2009, and going 2-11 in 2008 with similar results in 2007, I think it's great I got bumped down from 4.0 to 3.5! Even if I only spend a single year at 3.5, it'll be fun to be truly competitive for a change . . .!

Someone must have had a pretty bad year to have their rating go down.

I know a self-rated 4.0 that went 2-3 in the Adult League, 0-1 in Mixed, and was bumped down to 3.5. She's mad at her team captain. Can anybody explain that? I don't understand how it's the captain's fault.

^^^It isn't the captain's fault...someone needs to explain that to her perhaps.

I don't know anyone who got bumped down this time around. Even the guy who had a major injury and reconstructive surgery and got his rating moved down to 4.0 on a medical appeal, had it moved right back up to 4.5 - and he hasn't played at all since he won his appeal.

I also know a woman who played only two USTA matches last year, both against the same person, was 1-1, and got bumped to 4.5. She may be able to appeal. Her opponent got bumped too, but her opponent plays constantly all over the region.

I know someone who is currently receiving chemo and plans to appeal down. Sounds justified to me. So she gets to feel good about the bump, but she probably won't have to stay at that level.
