Does anyone else feel left out that his/her USTA rating wasn't bumped up?

Just asking for opinions.

It would be a nice ego boost to get bumped up. But, around here, it is tough to find 4.5 leagues.

Does anyone else feel left out that his/her USTA rating wasn't bumped up?

I'm confident that I'd get my *** kicked at 4.0 AND since wife got bumped to 4.5, we wouldn't be able to play 8.0 anymore and we'd get our asses kicked at 9.0 for sure.

I feel pretty secure in my 3.5 rating, although I wish i could play well enough to warrant being bumped up :(

I was middle of the pack last year, and have been practicing a ton. I'm looking forward to a great summer!

Same here. But it is really going to rock my world if I don't win.

I'm in the same boat as you two!

Almost everyone I played at 3.5 last season got bumped up to 4.0 except for the ones I beat handily. Every single partner of mine got bumped up as well so now I'm looking for partners and teammates to form a team!

I am not feeling left out as I only played 3 sanctioned matches. I should do pretty good this year.

I just started USTA this winter in the mixed doubles league, so my rating stayed the same. As it is, I self rated a bit low anyway, so I think I'll play a full level up from where I'm rated now once summer rolls around.

I only play tournaments, no league. I got beat on the first day at every tournament I played but one, and I got moved up to 4.0. This next year should be fun.....

I honestly don't care the rating... sure it's in back of my mind at times but hitting balls, trying to have fun, developing game etc... usually is my primarily concern.... for me rating just gets my ego boosted and make me into a tennis snob.

I didn't expect to get moved, so I'm okay with staying. And...seeing how some people did get moved up and others (after going to nationals two years in a row) did *not* get moved up, I'm thinking that I may never, ever get moved up anyway!

I'm doing great, but I feel for the one guy on our team that did get bumped. He is good, but most of his wins came from tenacity rather than overwhelming skill/formidable weapons. Also, our club doesn't have a 4.0 team, so he'll probably sit out this summer. Too bad - he's a nice guy and fun to have on the team.

I'm glad I stayed where I am. I was already on the low-end last year, so getting moved up would've been miserable for me, but luckily it was a mathematic impossibility based on my results. I was a little concerned about possibly being moved down (until word came out that they were doing this mass increase in ratings).

Eight of my 4.0 players were bumped to 4.5, but I'm happy to not be one of them! It's not like I can't play 4.5 anyway in Charlotte, but right now there is no 4.5 women's team in my town. We're going to start one this spring, but there won't be a lot of competition. It'll take every 4.5 in our three-county SC area - plus some 4.0s - to make one 4.5 team!

Not disappointed, since my season wasn't good enough to approve a boost.

Several of us in my area still have a date of like 5/20/09 Self-rated for example. Is it just not updated yet? Strange because 99% of the rest of the area have 12/31/09 B or C.

It probably means you did not play any rated matches. Did you play in the official Adult or Mixed leagues (those that progress to Nationals)...or did you maybe just play a Combo league?

Yeah I played 3.5 and 4.0 singles leagues and many tourneys. Also a 7.5 dubs league. My league match record for 3.5s was 9-0 and 4.0s was 2-2. And my 3.5s team went to Sectionals and did very well.

Singles leagues? I don't think those count. The adult league format has 2S and 3D positions. Did you play that format?

Oh ok. Yeah these were all Adult USTA leagues format.. 3S 3.5, 3S 4.0, and 3D 7.5.

Interesting.. so if I didn't play a 2S/3D league I get treated differently? My other teammates moved up, but they also played in another 2S/3D league.

As far as I know, the only leagues that count towards your rating are the Adult, Mixed, and Senior leagues that progress to Nationals. Any alternative formats such as singles-only and combo wouldn't count.

And ladies winter day league in Montgomery County (3 doubles, no singles). No advancement to Nationals, but it does count for your rating.

Weird, but true. One of my players in 2009 played Jan-Mar Ladies Day League and then became injured at the end of the season and so did not play in the spring. She was bumped up in Nov. 2009.

Wow, this is very strange then. But gives me freedom for sure. Seems to be a flaw nonetheless, but it's interesting that I've won 3.5 tourneys and have beaten many (if not all) of the 3.5s that have been bumped up but I don't get bumped up all just b/c I didn't play a 2S/3D league! Geez. This allows many (including me) to stay at the very top of their division and whip up on everyone. Kinda fell thru the cracks I'd say.

Didn't know they counted. What about tri-level leagues?

Tri-level counts toward your rating since it is a straight-rating league.
