To me it seems a secure bet. do you think Czech Republic could pull the upset? who is going to clich each rubber, given that the players are the expected ones?

IMO, Being held in the lovely city of Barcelona, on clay, seems a lock to Spain

It's tennis. Nothing is a lock in tennis.

Are they playing it on clay?? If they are playing on hardcourt, it is DEFINITELY not a lock.

Yes, the Spanish team chose to play at home on an indoor hardcourt similar to the one used at the O2 Arena in London for the WTF to give Nadal the best chance at winning all his matches. LOL

Yup, just like last year when Davis Cup was a lock for Argentina....

I agree, nothing is ever a lock. That's why they play the matches...
That being said: vamos Espana!

If Verdasco lost both his singles and Spain lost the doubles they could lose. I cant see Nadal losing to Berdych and Stepanek on clay. Berdych at his peak in 2007 couldnt even peak Nadal at Wimbledon on grass.

Worst case scenario for Spain, they lose one match.

You say it like Nadal played poorly on grass in 2007. It took Federer 5 sets to beat him.

A Czech upset would be a shock. What's interesting about this year's Davis Cup is that it marks the continued emergence of non-traditional tennis powers. Until recently, neither Spain nor the Czech Republic was much of a force in Davis Cup. See post below.

If nothing else, I hope Nadal will give a good performance to reassure us he will be capable of capturing the FO title in '10.

Is that like a Indoor clay court ?? if so, Stepanek and Berdych will have much better chance. Their shots will have more penetration...

Spain should win.

C'ARN THE CZECHS!

It's a good chance they'll win.

Definitely. This is not like Argentina last year when they had to rely on one player to win (Delpo). Spain has more players than just Nadal who can beat anyone on clay in front of their own crowd, like Ferrer, Verdasco, Robredo, Ferrero...

Indoor gives Czech a bit of a chance. No elements to deal with, and Rafa is the best wind player there is.

I never implied Nadal was poor on grass. On the contrary he is awesome on grass. However he is still way better on clay than on grass. If Berdych back in his prime couldnt beat Nadal at Wimbledon 07 on grass, heck couldnt even get a set, when many were picking him to make the final there, he has no chance vs Nadal on clay even today.

Davis cup is always a lock for Spain - as long as they play at home and play on clay.

Only Sweeden can beat spain on clay :)
