how to you volley a ball hit directly at your body? you can use the same motion.

for me I turn my body slightly to my left and do a backhand block to get the ball back.

I usually jump three feet up in the air and return it with a between the legs shot, hoping all the time it does not have a big kick on it. Just kidding. LOL

You got to love the game.

hmm the big kick is ok since it'll hit ur thigh, its the littke kick with a lot of topspin you really have to watch out for, depending how accurate the server is you may end up with a funny walk lol

back to PRACTICAL ways of returning into the body, i usually just step to my right and block a backhand back, same thing with volleys, the backhand covers the body easier than the forehand, next time improve your guessing ability and you'll always be prepared

If you have time enough to move your feet and get out of the way, you do that. Otherwise you get your racquet out in front and block back the big serve hit into the body. Slower serves, just shuffle over and out of the way to your favorite return side and hit a normal return.

Most of the time, the body jamming serve isn't coming into your body. The body is a small target. Most of the time, the side spin on the serve is misjudged and we actually move into the path of the ball.

Next time a side spinner comes in, stay where you are and use the unintuitive wing. If it looks like its coming to the backhand, stay put and prepare that forehand and vice versa.
