Many rackets come to me that are old and you can't get the bumper guard any more for them. The racket is wearing down, the bumper is worn off, and sooner or later the racket will be destroyed. I think I may have a solution.

Take a small section of a old bumper guard and use 'Gorilla Glue' to glue it to the damaged area of the bumper for the racket you are trying to save. To remove the repaired section if you ever want to, just soak it are in warm soapy water. At least 'Gorilla Glue's' website says warm soapy water or acetone will remove it.

Has anyone ever tried this or does anyone think it will work? Also a good way to repair a torn section of your bumper guard. I once glued down a torn section of a bumper with 'Gorilla Glue' and it worked great. Of course I never had to take it off.

It takes 'Gorilla Glue' a while to dry so I used tape to hold the torn bumper in place overnight while the glue dried.

So I think you mean one would cut to size and shape a repair piece from some other old bumper guard you have lying around?

How did the end job look aesthetically? Do you have any pics from that repair that you mentioned doing?

Thanks!

The only thing bad about Gorilla Glue is that it expands. I tried something similar to this once, and the glue lifted the piece up off the frame as it dried. Like you, I've never tried to remove it.

Its too bad no one ever came up with a cross reference chart that would cross reference grommets that new ones would work on discontinued models,as the manufactures would know this and don't let you know.

What about guard tape?

For the racket where the grommet was just torn it looked like a worn grommet when I finished unless you looked real close.

I did not put the pieces on the racket yesterday I just gave them to the guy and told him my idea. I used an old grommet that I had no idea what it was for. I have some old grommets sitting around.

Gorilla glue does expand you are right. When I repaired the torn grommet I knew that so I used it sparingly. It still expanded out of the crack between the two pieces of grommet where it was torn. I cut it off with a razor knife and it looked fine except for the whte crack you could see. The Gorilla glue dries white. I painted it with a black sharpie and it looked fine.

What about guard tape?

Guard tape wears through in no time. If you have some one abusive enough to go through the bumper tape is a waste of time.
