Good idea or bad idea? 1 pack of 40ft string, cut it in half to two pieces of 20 ft. Will both halves be enough to string the mains on a PDGT?

Yes, I cut my 40 ft set in half to string my PDGT.

Just in case if i were you just cut it at 21 and 19 that way it makes the mains easier and makes it so you dont have to worry if you dont have enough

It's usually fine unless you have a 18x20 racquet...

Always measure your string, what if the pack was less than 40ft by error?

wouldn't that defeat the purpose of doing two string jobs with one pack?

yeah, i was just trying to confirm that 20 ft is enough to do mains.. When measuring string I've always done the method of pulling x+1 lengths out of the reel to get the job done. x being the number of mains, or crosses, or whatever the situation may be.

A Head Microgel Radical MP the recommended string lengths are 20'x17'.
Just look up your string pattern.
You should not have a problem.

idk about the drop weight part. I've been stringing my friends speed mp (18x20) w/ 19 ft of pro red code for the mains. The tie-offs are pretty short though.

You might need a starting clamp to bridge the string as you will need to wrap the string around the drum. It happened to me once when I strung a radical OS.

Klippermate doesnt have a drum so no wrapping for me just load and tension so i think ill be okay but just to be sure a try it with syngut first

I would just use 8 lengths times 2. Most Syn Gut has a 10% stretch. Poly about 5%. But that method is for string off a reel. Some 18x20 patterns use more than 21 feet for the mains, so you would not have enough to string two of the same racket.

+1 on the Starting Clamp. Especially when using poly.

I dont have a starting clamp and moneys tight and ive just used my flying clamp as one but only on the crosses is where i use it so mains i might get screwed there

20 feet is enough for the mains, for sure. However, one REALLY important thing to do before you cut the set is to measure the whole coil. This is because string packs very rarely give you exactly 40 feet. Most often, they actually give you slightly more than 40, but occasionally they short you, so you'll be screwed if you cut such a set in half. So get that ruler out...
