View Full Version : How Often Do You Change Your Grip?

Overgrip and/or replacement grip.
For me, I change the overgrip every 1 - 3 weeks, and the replacment grip when it rips, gets too flat, slips or just starts to look shabby.

Replacement grip, almost never (over a year to say a number).
Overgrip once a month or so.

Replacement grip, never. Probably should but I use overgrips and never used the replacement grip so it's in brand new condition.
Overgrip depends. I have been using the Wilson Pro Overgrip for about 18 months now and on average I'd say every week (I play about 7 sets a week + 4 hours of training). Last week though as it was really sticky and hot and humid and was really poor conditions for tennis really I went through one on Tuesday (1.5 hours), one on Wednesday and the first set on Thursday night, another one on thurs night, and then 3 on saturday.
So in this week, which was even hot for an Aussie summer I used 6 in 5 days or so.
Going to buy some Tournagrip and Supergrap as I want something different for summer that won't feel like a bad sponge in the heat.

Does anyone know wich leather grip is the lightest of all?
Does anyone know wich leather is least thick?
And does anyone know how the TW leather is compared to others?

^^ TW 1.3 mm is the thinnest, but not the lightest. TW leather is very nice, and I think on the heavier side for leather grips.
I almost never change my replacement grip unless I buy a used racquet that has an old base grip. I change my overgrip every 20-30 hrs of play, depending on what conditions I play in. If I play indoor, then it lasts longer because my hands stay clean. If I play on a dirty court or likely shortly after it rained and the court is pretty wet, I would change it sooner.

Gamma leather works OK for me....

I change my overgrips once every 2 weeks or so. But I never change my Babolat Leathers...

I play alot, so overgrips every two weeks and the main grip every month or so to replace the cushioning.

I change my replacement grips every time I get a new racquet that needs a new replacement grip.
Overgrips depends on how much I play. I would say an average of every 5 days, less if I'm playing more.

I've very dry, rough hands...so overgrip usually last for 2 days for 2 hours each day...
Base grip, hardly ever needs to be changed, unless I want to downsize...

I've been playing with my regular grip (no overgrip) for three or four months now. Can I still use an overgrip with it at this point?
06-15-2010, 12:18 AM
Yeah for sure.
I used the Pro Hybrid grip on my BLX today for the first time by itself, feels awesome but I need an overgrip for size.

after every other match if im playing a tourny. dang tournagrip
Overgrip, when the tackiness wears out, either one year or 3 hours.
Regular grip...what difference does it make if it's worn and not tacky? You're gonna add an overgrip anyways.:shock:

I haven't felt a need to change the regular grip, but I change my Tourna Grip once a match or so (I usually flip it over to the other side and use that) because my hands sweat profusely.

My Replacement grip, only changed 5 times in 2 years, i change it when it slips off, gets dirty, or flattens
As for the Over Grip every month.

I install Babolat VS Leather grip on all my racquets once, then never again - I sell them after 2 years time.
Currently experimenting with different overgrips, but Gamma Supreme last me 8-10 hours, TournaTac XL 6-8 hours, Pacific Xtra Tack Pro 6-8 hours and Yonex Supergrap 4-6 hours time.
Wilson Pro OG last me 3-4 hours....
